Released in January of this year as part of 'The Purge' EP, it marked the Greek artist's first original project for the Indian imprint, following remixes for Ziger and Fresen & Mental Order in 2015 and 2019 respectively. Now as the year reaches it's halfway point, Juicebox Music invites Mike Rish and label boss Praveen Achary to re-imagine the track. Based in Australia and making his label debut is Mike Rish. The Melbourne resident has operated under a variety of alias' but it is his given name where his progressive imagination flourishes. A string of releases for homegrown label UGENIUS Music set the course in 2017, before going on to record remixes for Serenedeep and Interfonic over the last calendar year. Progressive music tastemaker's Hernan Cattaneo, Nick Warren and Guy J have all been supporter's along the way, as he makes his Juicebox Music debut with a groovy rendition of 'Black Swan'. Built around a thumping percussive framework, Mike focuses on rhythm and groove across the first act, nicely balanced with a healthy dose of wispy effects and smokey atmospheres. It's not until the main break where the pixie-like lead really shines, complete with gorgeous effervescent processing and offset by a new top line, the emotion becomes quite striking. This colourful canopy of sound is also timed perfectly, bringing reflective moments before wisely pulling back for a groovy drop and chugging finale. The release concludes with label boss Praveen Achary provided the second and final interpretation of 'Black Swan'. As one of India's most highly regarded progressive house talents, Praveen has made his mark both as a DJ and Producer, regularly performing at the countries best venues, while showcasing his music on Cid Inc's Replug Records, DJ Zombi's Beat Boutique, Mango Alley and microCastle. Now presenting his first production in well over a year, Praveen returns to his comfortable home of Juicebox with a heady take on 'Black Swan'. Binding rhythmic flow with trippy effects and a robust groove makes for a buoyant yet commanding first act. Although more aggressive and darker in nature, timely chord changes provide an emotive bridge into the main break, perfectly foreshadowing a deconstructed take on the lead theme. Spine-tingling and soothing in equal measure, these glowing tones then eventually highlight the centrepiece, gently elevating mood before getting washed away as the groove gallops towards an effects-laden final movement. A much welcome return for Praveen, capping off two spirited interpretations of 'The Purge', both of which should find favour with a broad range of DJs over the coming months. Highly recommended.
