Agustin Pengov – Balance [Dopamine White]

Adding more fresh talent to the roster, Nikko.Z's Dopamine White welcomes Agustin Pengov to the label for his debut EP. Hailing from Villa Mercedes, the Argentinean artist first appeared in February of this year when his 'City Lights' was selected by Fabri Lopez for Balkan Connection's 'PROD Community' Sampler. Contributions to the Strangers Beats 'South Strangers' Vol. 5 and the Aletheia Recordings Sampler Vol. 4 soon followed thereafter, establishing Agustin as one of his country's up and coming talents. Now presenting his first ever artist EP, the Villas Mercedes resident debuts on Dopamine White with the 'Balance' EP.

Beginning with the title selection, Agustin crafts an epic slice of progressive house with a tantalizing melodic narrative. Played out over eight plus minutes, it's well carved, muscular groove, pulsating rhythms and playful melodies come together for amazing moments across the first act. An expansive break sits at the core of the piece, spanning nearly two minutes in length and slowly melting down to a bed of twinkly melodies and sweeping effects, as a timely drum roll ushers in a feel-good finale.

The release continues with the robust sounds of 'Mutuo Acuerdo'. Sizable and commanding much like its predecessor, it's catchy arps and heady effects make for a pleasurable sonic story. A maze of clattering percussion adds swing to the groove as momentum builds, before warm overlays and additional arps shift energy across the break into a groovy finale.

The release concludes with the deeper and equally impressive 'Survival'. Well in line with the previous selections with it's free flowing style; a marriage of soulful overlays, haunting vocal pads and wispy atmospheres blanket a chunky, rolling groove. Once again, the main break is set to delight dance floors with it's emotional disposition and dynamic build, which perfectly shifts energy into a fluid, key changing finale. Reflective and memorable, it rounds out a welcome Dopamine White debut for Agustin, who continues to have a great first year. Highly recommended.
