Anna Maria X – Night Flight [Bellalou Records]

Anna Maria X continues to dazzle with the fourth release on her record label, Bellalou Records, which is a tantalising progressive house single titled “Night Flight".

Bellalou Records is a project that Anna Maria X has centred around her own music, giving her a platform to showcase herself without restriction. Each release has been well received by DJs and clubbers alike, but her powerful melodies and storytelling vocals also ensure her music has home listening qualities. 

After first breaking onto the scene with a release on John Digweed’s Bedrock, Anna Maria X has continued to make ripples in the melodic scene, and Bellalou Records is the next stage of her evolution.

“Night Flight” has all of Anna Maria X’s hallmarks, and after the suspenseful pads of the intro, the sub-bass kicks in, and the track begins its trajectory. A solid kick drum provides a backbone for its juddering bass and flickering hi-hats, but it’s the emotive male vocals that are its defining feature.

The track's steady release of energy hits a crescendo in the final third, where the bassline’s key change creates a hands-in-the-air moment of sheer dancefloor bliss.

Despite being classed as progressive house, some techy elements give the track melodic techno crossover, and it’s something we expect to hear in many a peak-time DJ set.
