Releases Pete McCarthey – Java (ICONYC) By Release Promo Posted on 21st May 2017 0 second read 0 0 Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Share on Reddit Share on Linkedin John Johnson's ICONYC imprint returns this week with a brand new single from Pete McCarthey. The Greek artist is making his debut on the US label which follows strong outings on Nikko.Z's Dopamine Music to end 2016. Now embarking on one of the most anticipated projects of his career Pete presents his debut single for ICONYC alongside remixes Praveen Achary and Lucas Rossi. Long noted for treading the techno inspired side of progressive house Pete once again shows his versatility on 'Java' with a more melodic and emotionally driven piece. Energetic from the outset, it's rolling groove flows through chord changes while intricate effects fire and delicate hypnotics add meditative appeal. Timeless tones and a buzzing tension set the stage for the main melody, fading into prominence and ultimately leading to a goosebump worthy break. The percussion comes in waves as the third act begins with the main theme rising higher as timely drum fills bring electric moments. A massive tune from Pete and certainly worthy of peak time play. The first interpretation of 'Java' is provided by Praveen Achary who is making his first appearance on ICONYC. We last heard from the Juicebox Music label boss in February of this year with a remix of Verve's 'Foundations', released courtesy of Balkan Connection. The Indian artist is much loved and with a combination of consistently excellent productions and a sparse release schedule each project is highly anticipated. This one is no different and I've already witnessed the hype building on his hugely popular twitter account. Opting for a much deeper and decidedly dubbier approach, Praveen's rework sits nicely alongside the more boisterous original. The devil is in the details here with a spacious framework housing a rough, weighty and character rich groove. It's amazing what a little restraint can do, as percussive elements get added and timely effects flow in and out of the storyboard the impact is sizeable. For me the real beauty lies in the luminous, atmospheric glow which encases the production for much of its journey. Incredibly delicate but oh so gorgeous. Classy remix from Praveen. The second and final interpretation of 'Java' is provided by Lucas Rossi who is returning to the label for his second appearance. The Argentinean artist made his debut on the US imprint in June of last year with a remix of 'Sanguinem' by Mo' Funk & Danny Glavan. Now following a stunning remix for Stripped Recordings in March Lucas returns for his fourth production of 2017, turning in a wonderful rendition of 'Java' to close out the release. The main themes translate well here, albeit with a slightly deeper delivery. Clap delays and a wealth of charming effects play throughout the nine minute journey but the magic moment comes following the main break. Masterfully crafted, the centrepiece builds anticipation before a dynamic energy bridge carries the piece to an exhilarating third act finale. Lovely remix from Lucas and a top release from John Johnson's ICONYC imprint once again. Highly Recommended.
