Li-Polymer - Conventu [ICONYC]

John Johnson's ICONYC imprint returns for one it's most anticipated releases of the year from Li-Polymer. There are few artists who have transformed their sound and enjoyed a quicker rise than the Portuguese ptoducer. A release on Hernan Cattaneo's Sudbeat Music stands out along with several top projects for Tash's Movement Recordings. Now making a much welcome return to ICONYC Li-Polymer presents his latest creation entitled 'Conventu' alongside remixes from Be Morais and Wanderlust.

As Li-Polymer has evolved as an artist we've seen his productions leave the traditional progressive house blueprint into something all his own. His latest 'Conventu' is a deep, dubby affair with great aesthetic qualities. The drum work is drool worthy, so organic, with lovely character and space while several astral motifs and killer vocal elements fill in the framework. It reminds me a bit of Brian Cid's work in a way which is of course a great thing but this is on a dreamier atmospheric plane ultimately. Killer stuff from Li-Polymer that calls for several listens to really wrap your head around all the amazing elements here.

John Johnson has called upon two very fresh talents for the remixes in Be Morais and Wanderlust. First up Brazilian artist and Not Another label boss Be Morais brings his brand of melodic techno to the track with great results. Quite a radical revamp, coming in with a tougher, headier edge and twisted yet melodious storyboard. Undeniably modern, it's the second act narrative which is perhaps most intriguing. Incredibly trippy with moments of profound beauty, it's the ultimate contrast and oh so satisfying.

Closing the release out is Wanderlust who returns to the label for his second appearance. The German artist famed for his releases on Connaisseur Recordings and Submarine Vibes delivers a refined and musical take. Delicate piano motifs combined with a growling underbelly and a smooth rhythmic core make for a concise and deadly six minute, dance floor weapon. It caps off what is an extremely well rounded release for John Johnson's ICONYC imprint which perhaps features one of Li-Polymer's strongest productions of the year. Highly Recommended.
