Overloque – Kalt Auf Dem Mars (Soundteller Records)

Deersky's Soundteller Records introduces another new talent to the label this week by the name of Overloque. The Russian artist began his career in 2010 with an intriguing string of releases which saw an experimentation of styles. A near three year hiatus then saw Overloque return with a techno inspired release on Suffused Music in 2015. It marked the beginning of interesting journey through the electronic underground for the Russian artist. Releases on Clinique Recordings and Progrezo Records have been highlights but now Overloque embarks on the most anticipated EP of his career entitled 'Kalt Auf Dem Mars'. 

For all of the arpy techno lovers out there you're in for a real treat as all three tracks feature layers and layers of spacey, cascading lines. The first, entitled 'Fractal' is a driving, pulsating and profoundly powerful piece. Relying heavily on waves of arps and building atmospheric tension it sounds absolutely enormous before stripping down into the main break. Going for the gusto, the centrepiece follows a very clued up dance floor narrative, with two sections of tension, preceding a third act, which brings further variation to the main elements and a wonky yet highly emotive moment, making for a solid seven journey.

The second selection and also the EPs title cut 'Kalt Auf Dem Mars' comes in much more melodic, sitting as a great complement to the first track. Nice variation on the squirrelly lead and a warm, key changing low end make for harmonic magic while the main break takes things further into the cosmos. The modular storyboard combined with cinematic pads and waves of noise grow to epic proportions before the third act brings it all together for the ultimate finish.

The release concludes with 'Reflexes' which is much more reflective in tone, setting a great mood to close out the release. Deeper yet still equally driving, the intense arp action is toned down a touch in favour of phasing atmospheres and rushes of swollen synths. A poignant lead theme really stands out and brings a lovely musicality to the piece while still keeping that techno frame of mind, as the electric groove drops out at just the right moments for extra bursts of energy. A perfect track to round out the release. Another great signing for Deersky's Soundteller Records with three top tracks from an artist to keep a close eye on moving forward.
