Releases Fazlen – Beautiful Things EP [Deepwibe Underground] By Release Promo Posted on 3rd April 2019 0 second read 0 0 Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Share on Reddit Share on Linkedin Deepwibe Underground continues it's prolific spring season with a new EP from Fazlen. The Sri Lankan artist first appeared on the Russian imprint in September of 2018 with his well received 'Friday 6PM' EP. Also laying claim to releases on Baikonur Recordings, Lick My Lips Records and Plusquam Chillout, Fazlen now lands back on Deepwibe Underground with 'Beautiful Things'. There's always been a tasteful minimalism about Fazlen's music and it's evident once again on 'Beautiful Things'. Warm kicks and mounds of rippling bass power the foundation while fluid rhythms and a strong effects narrative fill in the framework. Percussive flurries and haunting tones further the storyboard as the first act evolves with growing momentum. The main break commences following a stripped back bridge, perfectly setting up a spoken word storyboard. Mystical yet charming, it's an otherworldly narrative on LSD, creating moments of cinematic emotion before smoothly transitioning into a driving finale. The EP's second selection 'Endless' finds Fazlen exploring a deeper more esoteric side of his production repertoire. Tough and punchy from the outset, the groove opens up as creamy tones and redolent rhythms unite for a smooth percussive journey. Light and airy in tone, it’s rolling framework builds in waves, producing hip swinging moments as layers of percussion drive the piece into the break. Uniquely captivating, a band of fragmented vocals and sparkling effects highlight the centrepiece, before a drummy build elevates the mood further for a groovy conclusion. The release concludes with 'Oblivion' which presents a myriad of spacey designs across its eight minute journey. Beginning with a dark, ominous vibe the creation evolves through mounds of bass, waves of percussion and eerie motifs, eventually transitioning into an esoteric state. Cosmic arps and wispy atmospherics elevate the mood during a second act bridge, before melting down into an otherworldly centrepiece led by ghostly vocals and tripped out sonics which converge for a cosmic finale. It rounds out a superb return to Deepwibe Underground for Fazlen, foreshadowing what should be a great year for the Sri Lankan artist. Highly recommended.
