Originally released on Proton Music subsidiary Particles in April of 2014, the track showcased much of what progressive music fans love about Derek, engaging grooves and quirky, melodic storyboards. The remix potential is certainly high and Stellar Fountain have called upon Rafa'EL & Tuxedo and Bablak to reinvent the track for 2017. Polish artists Rafa'EL & Tuxedo both have impressive solo resumes and collaborations between the two have been rare. A joint remix for ICONYC in January sits as their lone pairing of 2017 so seeing them team up to remix a progressive house veteran like Derek Howell is certainly exciting. It's turned out wonderfully, maintaining the integrity of the original while still offering a bevy of new themes. The nasally acid line plays off a brooding underbelly quite nicely while Derek's signature symphonic elements get reinvented in a much lighter context. Add to that a spaced out, yet quite orchestral break and you've got a very unique piece of music. Excellent remix from Rafa'EL & Tuxedo. The release concludes with Bablak returning to the label for his eighth appearance. The Russian artist has been hotly tipped since making his debut in 2013 now owning a discography which includes releases on Balkan Connection, Soundteller Records and Strange Town Recordings. Remixing a storied figure like Derek has got a be a thrill for Bablak and he's come through in a major way. Like all of the Russian's work this is pristinely produced with a well sculpted groove and chunky rhythms laying down a sturdy framework. The main themes translate nicely as well with a growing symphonic storyboard leading perfectly into a stripped down middle section, followed by a suitably short yet very effective break. Brilliant interpretation from Bablak and a superb remix package for Stellar Fountain who continue to impress as 2017 unfolds. Highly Recommended.
