Ale Russo – Hold [Varona Label]

The latest release on Luis Kiverling's Varona Music finds Ale Russo making his debut on the label. Amidst much praise, the Argentinean artist has brought his distinctive progressive sound to Lonya's Asymmetric Recordings and Tash's Movement Recordings this year. Now making his much anticipated debut on Varona, Ale presents his latest single entitled 'Hold' alongside remixes from Andrea Cassino and Luis Kiverling & Diego Berrondo.

The Original Mix makes a strong statement to lead the release off with bouncy rhythms, crisp effects and clustered claps. As the framework gets filled in with percussion, buzzing synths slowly fade into the framework, bringing about an electric vibe. Sinister vocal elements come next along with strong tonal themes. The break delivers some palpable tension as bass stabs pierce the air before one final wave of effects reignites the groove for a strong finish.

Both remixes deliver something unique and complementary as well with Andrea Cassino being first up. The Italian artist lowers the tempo for something quite deeper and more organic sounding. Andrea's cadence has become his calling card and this mix has it in spades with smooth, rolling rhythms and gentle percussive waves pushing the momentum forward. Airy atmospheres heighten the senses, elevating nicely into the break before a profoundly emotional moment ultimately seals it's brilliance. Lovely remix from Andrea.

The second and final remix comes from Varona label boss Luis Kiverling and fellow countryman Diego Berrondo. This is the duo's first collaborative effort and it's turned out wonderfully. The drive and energy is quite incredible with chopped vocals and bubbly arps flowing through the framework. Upon breaking down into the second act you can immediately feel a dramatic shift. Bassy swells highlight the centrepiece, adding tension with each passing loop before the percussion slowly reconvenes igniting a powerful drop. A strong remix from Luis and Diego which makes for a fitting conclusion to this great package. Highly recommended.
