Andre Absolut – Times Change [One Of A Kind]

Andre Absolut continues his triumphant return to the scene with a new single on One Of A Kind this week. Perhaps best known for his releases on Baroque Records, Sog Records and Vapour Recordings in the mid 2000s Andre has now returned with recent releases on Mistique Music, Soundteller Records and Perspectives Digital. The Swiss artist now makes his debut on One Of A Kind with ‘Times Change’ alongside remixes from Hot TuneiK and Marten Sundberg.

The resurgence that progressive house is enjoying at the moment has certainly served Andre well. It’s great to see a lot of these old names reappearing and with fresh, inspired music and ‘Times Changes’ is a gorgeous slice of melodic heaven. Driven by a chugging, chunky groove it’s rolling rhythms get surrounded by light metallic motifs before breaking down into a grandiose, goosebump worthy break. Lovely stuff from Andre.

There are always a few artists operating on the pulse of a genre and Hot TuneiK has certainly achieved that within the progressive house scene. His warm grooves and organic design continue to win over the underground and his ‘Times Change’ interpretation will no doubt follow suit. The rhythmic, swing heavy qualities that his productions possess is quite unique, something like a cross between Brian Cid and Quivver in a way but lately it’s come in a dubbier context with fabulous results. Although the tempo does come up slightly on this version it’s definitely a late night jam.

The release concludes with Marten Sundberg returning to the label for his second appearance. The German artist first appeared on the Serbian imprint in July of 2017 with a remix of ‘Sitting On A Triangle’ by Ri Za. Now following a remix on Society Music, Marten returns to One Of A Kind with a great remix of ‘Times Change’. Deeper, techier and more atmospheric it sits as a lovely complement to the previous two versions. There are a bevy of shifts in narrative, made possible by clever transitions, all while sounding incredibly fluid and fresh. Definitely my favourite version on the release and a great way to round it out. Great stuff from One Of A Kind who are on a roll at the moment. Highly Recommended.
