Mango & Aeron Aether debut on John Johnson's ICONYC with 'Karuna'. Hailing from Russia and Hungary respectively the veteran pair have been a fixture of the progressive house underground for over a decade. Boasting a collective discography with releases on Proton Music, Silk Music and Mango's Mango Alley imprint, the duo now come together for their debut collaboration alongside remixes from Nils Hoffmann and Anton MAKe.

Concise and detailed, it's the original mix which gets the release underway. The creative process is an amazing thing when it goes well and when two like minded artists come together the expectations are always high. Mango and Aeron have more than met those expectations here with a contemporary slice of melodic minimalism. Punchy beats, exotic percussion and meditative pulses unite for a stellar first act, perfectly segueing into an apex of smooth chord changes and vocal overlays. A touch trancy in all the right way,s it brings the feels and then some. Great stuff from Mango and Aeron.

Making his label debut and providing the first interpretation of 'Karuna' is Nils Hoffman. Hailing from Berlin, the German artist has showcased his music on Anjunadeep, Ki Records and Poesie Musik. Now fresh off his 'Wherever You Are' single, Nils turns in a stunning rendition of 'Karuna'. Warm, emotive and quite playful in ethos, it serves as a gorgeous complement to the original. On a bed of spongy kicks and fluid bass comes charming electronics and redolent shades. Pristine production and simplicity win out here, making for a version that's reserved enough for the astute connoisseur yet grandiose enough to ensure a massive reaction from your dance floor.

The second and final interpretation of ‘Karuna’ is provided by Anton MAKe who makes his ICONYC debut here. The Russian artist also lays claim to recent releases on Cid Inc’s Replug Records, Balkan Connection and Juicebox Music. Always a creative remixer, Anton now puts a unique twist on ‘Alumine’, taking it into heady territory. The low end is particularly impressive, spacious and full of great contour, it provides the perfect foundation for mesmerizing arps, ghostly vocal wails and atmospheric swells to work their magic. There's a mystical message locked in this one, making an utterly captivating seven minute journey. Definitely one for the Hernan Cattaneo and Nick Warren fans out there, it caps off a very well rounded release for ICONYC. One their most memorable of the year perhaps. Highly recommended.
