D-Formation's Beatfreak Recordings begins the Spring season by welcoming Stas Drive back to the label for his debut EP. The Ukrainian artists unique blend of Melodic Techno and Progressive House has been favoured by the world's largest DJs, most notably Tale Of Us who championed his remix of 'Hourglass' by Morttagua ft. Ghost WARS. Also a boasting a discography with appearances on Akbal Music, Ein2, Eleatics Records, Selador, Suara and Timeless Moment, Stas Drive now lands back on Beatfreak with 'Spektra'.

Spread across five tracks it's the EP’s title and showcase piece ‘Spektra’ which gets the release underway. Here Stas Drive shows his uncanny knack for crafting tough beats, rugged rhythms and psychedelic designs. Anchored by a dynamic cadence, it’s momentum rises quickly as wonky synth elements and warped hooks further it's sonic storyboard. Otherworldly in nature, the piece then flows through a series of vocal fragments and pulsating percs, while the lead elements continue on an unpredictable journey as the break melts down into a tasteful drop. The EP’s second selection ‘Forgiveness’ continues with a more melodic state of mind. Setting the piece in motion, a foundation of perfectly contoured bass and charged rhythms merge for the ultimate hypnotic roll, while a narrative of metallic designs cuts through the atmosphere for a temperamental ride. Destined for main room success, it’s Stas Drive’s modern flair and techno minded approach which delivers maximum impact here once again.

The collection's halfway point is marked with 'Orbital', a mildly cross cultural piece with a heavy groove and boundless drive. Anchored by a tight framework, the Ukrainian artist moves through a storyboard of rippling rhythms, exotic percussion and an otherworldly break which ultimately seals it's brilliance. The fourth selection 'Getaria' shifts back into more progressive minded territory with a chunky, chugging groove and a wide array of astral sonics. It's become a Stas Drive production trademark in a way, the combination of unpredictable cosmic motifs with powerful rhythmic structures continues to work wonders on the dance floor, and Stas certainly has this unique combination on lock. Rounding out the release is 'Fibonacci' which puts a reflective mood across the entire EP. A storyboard of hazy harmonics brings a subtle yet powerful emotional response, while a wonderfully whimsical break peaks your interest as another well timed drop should command the full attention of your dancefloor. It rounds out a stunning collection of music from Stas Drive, which not only makes for a great return to Beatfreak but also continues a hot start to 2019 for the talented Ukrainian. Highly recommended.
