PABLoKEY & Massio – Aura [Soundteller Records]

Deersky's Soundteller Records welcomes PABLoKEY & Massio to the label this week with 'Aura'. Based in Los Angeles, both PABLoKEY and Massio have made considerable strides within the organic music scene in recent years. A combined discography boasts releases via Hoomidaas, Keyfound, KMT Records, Mirrors and more. Having worked together in the past previously for a single on Perfecto Black, PABLoKEY & Massio now combine their extensive forces once again for their Soundteller debut alongside remixes from Hole Box and Powel.

Continuing to explore organic sounds, PABLoKEY & Massio's latest 'Aura' is groovy and soulful with a gorgeous musical narrative. Beginning with a full swing heavy groove and exotic drums, the duo begins to work strong themes, from ghostly vocal choirs to Latin-inspired musicality leading into the break. Nostalgic chord changes and fluttery instrumentation dominate the heartfelt interlude, keeping energy and mood locked in the process, perfectly setting up a transcendent finale.

Returning to the label and providing the first interpretation of ‘Aura’ is Hole Box. Approaching a decade-long career, the Mexican artist has been prolific of late with projects via Akbal Music, Cigarette Music, Journey of the Soul and Tale & Tone highlighting his discography. Also a regular on Soundteller with three originals and three remixes recorded since making his label debut in 2019. Now returning for his fourth remix, Hole Box crafts a gorgeous interpretation of 'Aura'. The vocal elements get used quite tastefully here, chopped up and drifting gently below the surface, before rising above strong musical elements and a warm groove leading into the break. Quiet and calm, the interlude resets mood into one of reflection and hope, rather than going too big in the process and perfectly foreshadowing a smooth yet groovy finale.

Rounding out the release with the final remix is Powel who makes his label debut. With a career that now spans over a decade, Berlin based artist Powel has continued to delight organic house afficionados with his releases via All Day I Dream, Anjunadeep, Do Not Sit, Sound Avenue and more. As one of the genre's premiere artists, Powel now makes his Soundteller debut with a beautiful rendition of 'Aura'. Taking inspiration from the original, the German artist flexes his free-thinking muscles and crafts a version that finds a great balance between groove and emotion. Additional drive resonates from life-like pulses and deliberate percussion, while never letting go of its tranquil vibration, which ultimately makes this a dance floor delight.
