Carlos Bacchus – Lithops [Onestar Records]

Returning from a short hiatus, Onestar Records welcomes Carlos Bacchus to the label for his debut single. Hailing from Colombia, Carlos Bacchus first emerged over a decade ago with releases via Smart Phenomena, System Recordings and his own Bacchus Records imprint. With a varied style that incorporates elements of deep house, tech house, electro, trance and more, the Monteria resident eventually settled on progressive house. Continuing to perfect his craft, Carlos is currently enjoying his best and most prolific year on record, with sixteen new credits added to his discography across 2022. Now adding Onestar Records to his portfolio, Carlos debuts on the label with 'Lithops', alongside a remix from Ivan Martinez.

Destined to be a highlight in Carlos' discography, it is the poignant stylings of the original mix which gets the release underway. Rhythmically charged from the outset, its smooth cadence, striking stabs and buoyant groove set the piece on a course for aural enlightenment. Fluttery melodies and emotive chord changes make for a thrilling first act, carrying momentum and mood into the main break. Glowing swells and soulful synth swagger delight across the centrepiece, further enhancing the genuine mood, as a timely drum roll and rising sonics unite for a tasteful crescendo and uplifting finale.

Returning to the label with the lone interpretation of 'Lithops' is Ivan Martinez. Based in Queretaro, the Mexican artist began his career on the Colombian imprint in 2019 with a remix of 'It Was Ravel' by label boss Jhonny LP and fellow countryman PINO. Ivan's groovy progressive minded take on the track set the course for future offerings via Beat Block Records, BQ Recordings, Estribo Records and Mystic Carousel. Having released his first EP project for Onestar in August of last year, Ivan now returns to the label with a spirited take on 'Lithops'. Adding more of an organic state of mind, the Mexican artist carves out a dynamic groove adorned with exotic percussion, charming arps and smooth atmospheric phrasing. Emotive chord changes and haunting pads emerge as the second of two breaks evolves, bringing goosebump worthy moments to its dance floor inspired framework, and ultimately propelling the track to a thrilling finale. A sensational remix from Ivan, which rounds out a must-have Onestar debut for Carlos Bacchus. Don't miss it.
