Mononoid – Running out of Time Feat. Amy Douglas White [ICONYC]

Following the success of February's 'Evolution Transform', Mononoid returns to ICONYC with 'Running out of Time'. Having made their label debut in 2018, the Dutch duo have developed into primary artists for the US imprint. Now nearly five years on and Mononoid have racked up sixteen discography credits for ICONYC, while also finding a home on Beatfreak, Beat Boutique and Movement Recordings. Now, following a single for Dantze, Mononoid returns to ICONYC with 'Running out of Time', alongside remixes from Kate Ozz, Frank Sonic & Larsun Hesh and ReCorpo.

Beginning with the original mix, Mononoid collaborates with vocalist Amy Douglas White. Together the trio craft an emotive slice of progressive house that arrives in good time for the impending fall season. Mononoid's warm key changing grooves, timeless tonal themes and lively percussive arrangements set the perfect foundation for Amy’s memorable hooks to work their magic. She injects the piece with whimsical soul and charm, as Mononoid’s warm grooves and subtle musicality provide the perfect dance floor vehicle to deliver the tracks transcendent message.

The three remixes all add something interesting to the release beginning with Kate Ozz. The Russian born, USA based artist utilizes the vocal very well, nicely meandering around billowing effects and icy harmonics. The main break provides a timely detour where cutting edge sonics take centrestage, building a tense anticipatory vibe, while the vocal and new found acid motifs provide an enthralling finale.

Next up Frank Sonic & Larsun Hesh move in a deeper more thought provoking direction. In a first time collaboration, the German duo deliver a detailed rework with gorgeous piano motifs and deconstructed vocals, the latter of which provides an ever-evolving atmospheric narrative, before eventually revealing a softer, less direct take on the vocals across the break and on through a heartfelt finale.

Rounding out the release and returning to the label for the final remix is ReCorpo. The Italian artist dubs down the whimsical nature of the original for more of a cosmic experience. Layers of wavy arps provide the primary storyboard, nicely set against rolling grooves and sparser percussive arrangements, while the full vocal eventually emerges at the midway point, providing additional colour across a tastefully restrained conclusion. A strong remix from ReCorpo, making for an excellent return to ICONYC for Mononoid, an artist duo who continue to surprise and impress. Highly recommended.
