Releases Matter ft. Graham Baxter – Everything, So Young (2022 Rework) [Strange Town Recordings] By Release Promo Posted on 3rd March 2022 7 min read 0 0 Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Share on Reddit Share on Linkedin Presenting their second release of the year, Strange Town Recordings re-visits Matter & Graham Baxter's 'Everything, So Young'. Released in 2019, 'Everything, So Young' has remained a discography highlight for the Canadian imprint, with Matter continuing to gain notoriety for his sleek progressive grooves. Meanwhile Strange Town has excelled over the last two calendar years, adding key artists to their roster such as Alex O'Rion, Gai Barone, Tantum and Weird Sounding Dude. Continuing on an upwards trajectory as 2022 unfolds, the label now presents new interpretations of 'Everything, So Young' by Matter and Forty Cats. When you get the right combination of stylish progressive grooves and ethereal vocals the potential for magic is always high. Matter accomplishes that incredibly well here with a very worthy update to 2019's already excellent original. The atmosphere is hazy, musical and intoxicating; perfectly anchored by an emotive bassline that seems to have all the right colourful contours, while Graham's soulful chops resonate above, adding just the right amount of emotion to keep this one cool and classy. Making her label debut and providing the second interpretation of ‘Everything, So Young’ is Forty Cats. With well over a decade’s worth of DJ experience, Russian artist Christina Gavrilova aka Forty Cats has been a fixture of her country’s nightlife, sharing the stage with Jody Wisternoff, Nick Warren, Yotto, Dave Seaman and more. Christina’s production debut landed three years ago via 8bit Music, and in relatively short order the Russian artist has gone on to release projects via Lane 8’s This Never Happened, Hernan Cattaneo’s Sudbeat Music, Juicebox Music and Mango Alley. Now adding Strange Town to her resume, Forty Cats debuts on the label with a powerful take on ‘Everything, So Young’. Energy and drive come up a touch here with a groove that ripples and wobbles in all the right ways. The vocal sounds gorgeous across the first act, re-processed for maximum sensory stimulation, drifting gently below a haze of harmonic colour, before a chirpy, acid-like line rises for an epic finale. It would be hard to go wrong with either version and for the less vocally inclined there is also a Forty Cats Dub included. Sometimes revisiting your back catalog doesn't work out too well but it certainly has here, with two outstanding updates that will carry 'Everything, So Young' through the spring and summer seasons.
