Releases Kyotto – The Surge [Movement Recordings] By Release Promo Posted on 18th May 2025 9 min read 0 0 Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Share on Reddit Share on Linkedin Tash’s Movement Recordings opens the month of May by welcoming Kyotto back to the label for his debut EP. First emerging in 2017, Sri Lankan artist Kyotto was quickly tipped as one of his country’s most promising progressive house artists. Releases via JEE Productions, Mango Alley, PURRFECTION, WARPP and his own CRFT Music imprint have been recent discography highlights, while Hernan Cattaneo continues to be steadfast with support. A creative partnership with Movement Recordings was also established along the way, with a remix of Hobin Rude and a contribution to the label’s GLBLMVMT5 collection highlighting 2022. Now, fresh off a remix for La Foresta, Kyotto returns to Movement for his first EP project ‘The Surge’, alongside remixes from Cosmonaut and HAFT. The groovy sounds of the title selection steal the air and present a colourful monochrome within Kyotto’s repertoire, as charged beats, rebounding rhythms and astral sonics converge for an electric narrative. Advancing the journey further across the break, it’s a wavy arp and glowing backdrop which emerge, travelling in hypnotic and emotional directions, before a finale of heavily manipulated stabs cast a devilish spell over the dancefloor. The companion piece ‘Sorry I’m Late’ finds Kyotto crafting a chunky progressive number that’s nicely suited for those mid-set moments. Undulating basslines forecast a powerful low end, while deliberate percussion, bubbly arps and effervescent effects instantly commands your attention. Coming to full friction during the interlude, it’s a wave of twisted modulation which provides tension and anticipation, eventually culminating in a grooved out finale. Making his label debut with the lone interpretation of ‘The Surge’ is Cosmonaut. Hailing from Russia, Eduard Gubin aka Cosmonaut has been a producer and DJ dating back to the early 1990’s. On the strength of early tracks ‘Plasma’ and ‘Boctok5’, recorded under the alias Radiotrance, Eduard would quickly earn the praise of Paul Oakenfold who included both productions in his DJ Mag Top 10. Moving forward the Russian artist would eventually coin his Cosmonaut moniker and be regarded as one of his country’s most promising electronic music exports, also establishing himself as a DJ and performing alongside The Prodigy, Underworld, Paul Van Dyk and Tiesto. With the distinction of creating some of Beatport’s best selling progressive house tracks of all time, the most recent of which was last year's number one overall, a remix of ‘Meteora’ by Bondarev for WARPP, Cosmonaut now makes his Movement debut with a huge interpretation of ‘The Surge’. Staying true to his lively peak time style, the Russian artist puts his own unique stamp on the track with a cosmic approach, showcasing an impressive array of effects and classically styled melodies in a heartfelt yet tasteful fashion, before a buzzing finale ensues adding depth and character to the journey. The release concludes with HAFT returning to the label for the lone remix of ‘Sorry I'm Late’. Hailing from Iran, Sam Nasehi and Amir Subb make up the HAFT production duo. A 2017 debut on Pipe & Pochet would establish the duo's blend of mesmerizing synths and exotic percussive arrangements, a sound which would lead them to releases via Akbal Music, Do Not Sit and Hoomidaas across the last half-decade. 2024 would see HAFT continue to prosper and choose their projects wisely, notching standout releases for Clubsonica, Mango Alley, RKP and Warung Recordings. Movement Recordings has also been a landing spot for HAFT, with their label debut coming in 2024 as part of the label’s popular ProgNoesis series. Now, continuing to build a bond with the Greek imprint, HAFT returns to Movement with a groovy take on 'Sorry I’m Late'. Taking a modern approach, the Iranian duo toughens up the framework with muscular kick drums, fluid rhythmic pulses and spacious percussion. Smooth and energetic in equal measure, its looping hypnotism delivers tension throughout, as billowed tones and deconstructed vocals provide anticipation, before melting down into a groovy finale.
