GRISHA (RU) – Takeoff [Deepwibe Underground]

Grisha makes his much anticipated return to Deepwibe Underground this week for a brand new EP. Having made his debut on the Russian imprint in July with 'Everything', the Russian artist also lays claim to releases on Groove 9 Records and Superordinate Music. Now following an EP for Polyptych, Grisha lands back on Deepwibe Underground with 'Takeoff'.

Spread across three tracks it’s an amazing showcase for one of Russia’s top up and coming progressive house talents. Beginning with ‘Into The Deep’ we see an amalgamation of deep grooves and rugged design. From it’s grungy low end to hypnotic lead themes and a trippy, tension filled break, it’s a piece that not only makes for a compelling listen but should work wonders on the dance floor. The second selection ‘Takeoff’ has received perhaps the most hype pre-release with Guy J being one of the first to chime in with support. A touch melancholic and undeniably rhythmic it’s a hip swinging journey into percussive flurries and plonky tonal themes. The latter of which gets showcased beautifully during a serene centrepiece, before a tasteful build reignites the groove for a smooth finale. The release concludes with perhaps the beefiest and most impactful track on the EP ‘Midnight Walker’. Sonically it’s quite similar to ‘Into the Deep’ but much more subversive and mysterious in terms of narrative. Indistinct vocals and waves of noise unite for a paranoid vortex if you will, making for a heavy track perfectly suited to those darker moments on the dance floor. It rounds out a diverse collection of music from Grisha who seems to have found a home on Deepwibe, a label which continues to rise up through the progressive house underground.
