Esteban Ikasovic – Southbeach [Onestar Records]

The latest release from Onestar Records welcomes Esteban Ikasovic to the label for his debut EP. Hailing from Buenos Aires, the Argentinean artist first appeared on the progressive music scene in February of this year with a release on Estribo Records. Subsequent offerings via 3xA Music and BQ Recordings then established Esteban as a top up and coming talent. Inspired by the likes of Hernan Cattaneo, Nick Warren and Guy J, Esteban is already an accomplished DJ, have played events such as Rewind, Azul Summer Festival, Mojo Olavarria, Henry and Bonsifest, while sharing the booth with well known countryman Facundo Mohr, Marcelo Vasami, Paul Deep, DJ Paul and Sebastian Busto. Now fresh off a well received single for Jelly For The Babies' One Of A Kind imprint, Esteban debuts on Onestar with 'Southbeach'.

Continuing to gain fans with his progressive sounds, it is the title track 'Southbeach' which leads the release off. Anchored by a warm punchy kick, its rhythmic core rises quickly, with layers of detailed percussion and lively rhythms filling in the framework. As the first act evolves, astral effects and fragmented melodies unite for a gorgeous blend of texture and colour. Trailing off into the main break, it's a wave of hazy harmonics which elevates the mood, eventually reaching a tasteful crescendo and euphoric, key changing finale.

The EP's midway point finds Esteban exploring more atmospheric progressive sounds with 'Liberty Vibes'. Its pulsating foundation is energetic and well contoured, highlighted by rolling undulation and a buzzing electricity. Buoyant and powerful, it provides the perfect foundation for waves of percussion, heavenly pads and liquid-like effects to steal the air. Building with each successive loop, the narrative shifts further into emotive territory as the breakdown presents a stunning array of tranquil overlays and effervescent effects, before a powerful drop segues into a cosmic final movement.

Rounding out the release are the smooth yet heady vibes of 'Keeping Distance'. As the first act begins to take shape, punchy beats, chugging basslines and rolling percussion unite for a groovy rhythmic core. Rising atmospheres and stunning effects then advance the narrative, elevating mood with each successive loop, before pixie-like melodies and a reflective break seal it's emotive appeal. It caps off a gorgeous EP from Esteban, making for a brilliant Onestar debut and adding to Argentina's growing list of progressive music talents. Highly recommended.
