EANP – Lilac [Deepwibe Underground]

6 min read

Deepwibe Underground opens the new year by welcoming EANP to the label for their debut EP. Having worked together since 2014, it wasn't until 2018 that Buenos Aires residents Ezequiel Anile and Nicolas Petracca decided to coin the EANP alias for their collaborative efforts. Now firmly established, the moniker has become synonymous with quality progressive music. Continued support from genre tastemakers Hernan Cattaneo and Nick Warren, along with key releases for Balance Music, Mango Alley, Or Two Strangers and Replug have made the Argentinean duo a much in-demand act. Now coming off a remix for Musique de Lune , EANP makes a much anticipated debut on Deepwibe Underground with 'Lilac'.

Beginning with 'When You Leave Hole’ EANP aims squarely at a peak time dance floor with one of their biggest productions to date. Backed by punchy beats and a tough, rolling groove it’s got infectious energy from the outset. Its powerful drive is encased in a perfect balance of electric rhythms, finely tuned percussion and mysterious vocal edits. Glowing overlays gently elevate mood while bringing greater emotional depth as the main break approaches. Fragmented melodies rise across the interlude, complete with an effervescent tinge, while flowing through tasteful modulation as the groove drops for a thunderous finale.

Moving on to selection two, the journey continues with the chugging vibes of ‘Lilac’. Immediately captivating, its muscular bassline, dark undertones and striking chord stabs make for a groovy first act. Spastic effects and vibrant atmospherics play off the well carved low end, making for an irresistible, hip swinging groove leading into the break. Pixie-like melodies and youthful overlays create a colourful canopy of sound as the centrepiece evolves, building anticipation towards a thumping final movement.

The release concludes in fine fashion with the peak time qualities of ‘Lysithea’. The duo's distinctive sound once again creates a progressive journey that is both dramatic and emotional. Rhythmic structures and machine progressions drive each other into a whirlpool of spiralling directions, before a gorgeous break shifts the narrative into one of hope and reflection, making for a flexible club track that bends between scenes while injecting energy into the dancefloor. It rounds out what is an inspired EP from EANP, an artist duo who continues to rise up through the progressive house landscape as 2023 begins. Highly recommended.
