Desaturate – Titan/Spite [Juicebox Music]

Praveen Achary’s Juicebox Music continues its strong summer schedule with a new EP from Desaturate. Having previously appeared on the label as one half of Progress Inn, Janko Dragovic now returns for his solo debut as Desaturate. Since the inception of the new moniker in 2015, Desaturate has compiled an impressive discography with appearances on Hernan Cattaneo’s Sudbeat Music and Cid Inc’s Replug Records. Now following an EP for Proton Music in January, Desaturate presents his Juicebox debut ‘Titan/Spite’.

Upon launching this solo endeavour Desaturate immediately found favour with DJs like Nick Warren and Hernan Cattaneo. His cutting edge take on progressive music was inspired and his sound has continued to evolve, leading to the dark and powerful ‘Titan’ which is featured first here. There’s always an amazing sense of rhythm and groove with everything Desaturate does and that’s certainly evident on ‘Titan’ but with more of an aggressive tone perhaps. The low end is rough, rugged and packed with momentous energy, while the percussion carries a certain bite as well. The storyboard however is quite mystical with ethereal motifs fading to prominence as the main break commences. Trippy and mystical in equal measure you’re then led on a path to cavernous depths where electronics sizzle and percussive splashes ignite a powerful drop.

The companion piece ‘Spite’ follows suit with a dark narrative that sits in a similar sonic space. This creation is much more of a straight dance floor burner though, likely ideal for midset material with its chugging drive and dubby vibe. It’s cosmic appeal is undeniable with a wealth of crunchy effects and quirky snyth motifs to fully saturate your senses. With new Desaturate material always in high demand these two cuts couldn’t come at a more appropriate time and Juicebox Music comes up aces once again with a stunning vehicle to showcase them.
