DEER (COL) – The One [Onestar Records]

The latest release from Onestar Records welcomes DEER to the label for his debut EP. Based in Colombia, Alejandro Morales aka DEER has been carefully honing his craft in recent years, creating an emotive blend of deep and progressive house. Now unveiling his first official productions DEER debuts on Onestar with 'The One'.

Beginning with the title selection we get a heavenly slice of progressive house. Backed by punchy beats and warm redolent bass comes ethereal vocal gates and radiant atmospheres. A gorgeous canopy of sound makes for a reflective first act, perfectly segueing into a glowing, impassioned break. Clustered melodies and smooth chord changes prove to be perfect sonic companions, gently rising across the centrepiece before a windy sweep drops into a charming final act. Also included is the 'Twilight' version which finds DEER presenting those redolent shades in a slightly dubbier context. With a greater emphasis on atmospheric resonance this version operates as an ideal complement to it's predecessor.

Rounding out the release is the companion piece 'Nightmare' picks up the pace and moves closer to peak time territory. The warmth and emotion conveyed in 'The One' is evident here also with bulbous bass tones and vivid atmospheres setting a gorgeous sonic architecture. Clattering percussion adds fiery drive to the narrative, while a perfectly timed break delivers all the anticipation and depth you could ever want. An impassioned beauty from DEER which caps off a stunning debut EP for the Colombian artist, once again making for a great release courtesy of Onestar Records. Highly recommended.
