Releases Cream (PL) – Cadence / Takoma [Strange Town Recordings] By Release Promo Posted on 14th June 2021 8 min read 0 0 Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Share on Reddit Share on Linkedin Starting the summer season in style, Strange Town Recordings welcomes Cream to the label for his debut EP. Whether operating solo or as part of the famed Cream & Deep Fog duo, Polish artist Cream has firmly etched his place in the progressive music landscape. With a discography that dates back almost a decade, the Jarosław resident has showcased his music via 3rd Avenue, Particles and Proton Music. You can now add Strange Town to that highly acclaimed list of labels, as Cream makes his debut on the Canadian imprint with 'Cadence / Takoma', alongside a remix from Weird Sounding Dude. Continuing to gain fans with his progressive sounds, it is 'Cadence’ which leads the release off. Anchored by a tough kick and chugging groove, it's foundation is one of great shape and character. Layers of percussion and murky tones make for a lively yet mysterious rhythmic core, building with a veteran's savvy as the main break approaches. Always one to keep the dance floor in mind, Cream builds sizeable tension across the centrepiece, with cascading keys and a huge drum roll uniting for a monstrous crescendo and bass heavy drop. The companion piece 'Takoma' presents a smoother, more meditative flow of energy, perhaps with greater drive and momentum than it's predecessor. Maintaining the emotive sensibility set by 'Cadence', the break opens up once again, allowing melodies to rise and ultimately breathe amidst a backdrop sweeping effects, before smoothly seguing into a hopeful finale. Rounding out the release and providing the lone interpretation of ‘Cadence’ is Weird Sounding Dude. Based in Bangalore, the Indian artist has grown into one of his country’s most beloved progressive house producers. As a favourite of the genre’s most highly regarded tastemakers, Weird Sounding Dude has compiled an impressive discography with key releases via Hernan Cattaneo’s Sudbeat Music and Nick Warren’s The Soundgarden. With a sleeker, more refined sound the Indian artist has been a genre standout across the first half 2021, notching well received remixes of ARTN, Bachir Salloum, Dmitry Molosh and Sergey Muzarks. A familar face to Strange Town fans with an EP and remix released via the label across 2018 and 2019, Weird Sounding Dude now lands back on the Canadian imprint with a smooth rendition of 'Cadence'. Fluid rhythms, driving percussion and hazy harmonics set the course for this enchanting journey. Mounds of perfectly contoured bass roll forward with momentous swing, as emerging effects and effervescent lines smoothly shift energy into a tasteful break. Taking a cue from the Original, musicality rises as the interlude unfolds, as muted chimes weave their way through layers of colour and texture on wards to a thumping finale. A heady and hugely satisfying interpretation from Weird Sounding Dude, which caps off a welcome Strange Town debut for Poland's Cream. Don't miss it.
