Antrim & Luis Bondio – Us And Them [Or Two Strangers]

Or Two Strangers kicks off 2018 in style with a brand new collaboration from label boss Antrim and Luis Bondio. The Argentinean duo have been frequent studio partners over the years, showcasing their music on Nick Warren’s Hope Recordings, Sound Avenue and Luis’ own Classound Recordings. Now following up their well received ‘Baby Blue’ single from November of last year Antrim and Luis present their latest single ‘Us And Them’ alongside remixes from Stelios Vassiloudis and Sugarfreeq.

The aforementioned ‘Baby Blue’ proved to be one of the labels most hyped releases of 2017 and ‘Us And Them’ looks set for a similar course as the new year begins. Tough beats, crisp electronics and rolling percussion lay down a solid, floor friendly foundation. As growling synths carve out their own menacing path, spacey effects dazzle the senses while the atmosphere rises. The lead motif proves to be the highlight, melodic yet understated, before bright tones elevate the narrative skyward. A stunning creation from Antrim and Luis, which perhaps sits a top their all time best work.

The first interpretation of ‘Us And Them’ is provided by Stelios Vassiloudis who is making his debut on the label. The Greek artist has been a mainstay of John Digweed’s Bedrock Records over the course of his fifteen year career, while recent discography highlights also include outings for Armadillo, Poker Flat and Selador. Now making his much anticipated debut on Or Two Strangers Stelios takes ‘Us And Them’ into deeper, dubbier territory with great results. The Greek artist has effortlessly melded elements of dub techno and tech house for a production that’s sure to find favour with a broad range of DJs. Subtle strokes from the original add to a delicate yet emotive storyboard, ultimately peaking during the second of two breaks.

The second and finale interpretation of ‘Us And Them’ is provided by Sugarfreeq who is also making his debut on the label. Hailing from Cordoba, Cruz Ataide and Andres Gonzalez formed the Sugarfreeq production moniker in 2016. It’s their first foray into electronic music production and after two years of studio time the duo now present their first ever production with a stunning remix of ‘Us And Them. Sugarfreeq uses the main themes from the original perfectly over a sleeker, more laid back groove for the ultimate compliment to the previous two versions. Hopeful and reflective in tone, the chord changes carry the emotion throughout before a cinematic break seals it’s brilliance. Already a staple in the sets of Hernan Cattaneo, who can be seen playing the track in numerous online videos makes it one not to miss. A gorgeous remix from Sugarfreeq and a great start to 2018 for Antrim’s Or Two Strangers imprint.
