We are lucky enough to have one of Brazil’s top DJ’s and producers with us before his gig in Croatia this weekend for Ultra’s world renowned Resistance stage. Currently living in Barcelona, his style of music has a very distinct sound, loved by many industry heads, which has lead him to have a string of successful releases on labels including Systematic Recordings, Tronic, Bedrock and Drumcode. We find out what he’s got going on for the next few months along with an exclusive new mix showcasing some of his latest projects.

South America has one of the strongest techno scenes in the world, and Brazil is very interesting place. What do you like about the scene there and can you describe your beginnings in music? Where did you find inspiration?

I think the scene in Brazil is going through some quick and important changes recently, it became so much bigger in the past couple of years. Just as I moved to Spain things started to change so fast it was hard to keep track of everything. When I started out as a DJ it was in the late 90s and everything was starting to take shape in Sao Paulo, where I’m originally from. There were a few really good clubs, some big festivals started to appear, and it was great to be a part of that whole movement, this was very inspiring to me. I’ve been a musician since my early teen years, and the route to becoming a DJ and producer was pretty much due to years of disappointments with band mates, which led me to doing everything by myself, and eventually to electronic music, as it was a lot easier to express myself through it.

In the past you have played in different places all over the world. How were your recent tours in the US and Australia, did you have some key highlights? We hear you are headed back to the US and Canada soon?

The year has been great so far, lots of amazing gigs, lots of first time gigs in countries I haven’t been before, can’t wait for what’s next! Australia has a special place in my heart since that’s where I first fell in love with electronic music some 20 years ago, and going to the US for the first time was also an amazing experience, so I am really happy to be going back in August and maybe December as well, it’s a totally new market for me but has a lot of resemblance to how things work in Brazil,  so I felt quite comfortable there. And yes, I’m going back to Canada in the end of July and beginning of August, to play in one of the best clubs around, Coda in Toronto, and also Eclipse Festival in Quebec, and will have a whole week to explore this amazing country in between, which I’m really looking forward to.

We all have some dreams and desires. When we talk about music, can you tell us are there any dreams that you would like to accomplish still?

Of course there are tons of places where I’d like to play and labels I’d like to work with and equipment I’d like to have, stuff like that, but my main goal is to keep making the music that I love and playing them out to people for as long as I can, all the rest comes with hard work and discipline, dreaming is cool but it’s better to keep yourself grounded if you want to keep moving forward.

This is the first time that you will play at Ultra Music Festival. What are you expecting being part of the Resistance Stage and what can we expect from your set?

I’m really looking forward to it, the whole Resistance concept has been developing beautifully and I’m honored to become a part of it, you’ll hear a lot of the things I’ve been working on for the past year and which haven’t been released yet, although some of it could be heard via Drumcode radio shows from the past few months.

One of the most successful woman in today’s music scene, your partner ANNA, will be playing with you in a special b2b set – is this the very first time you have done this at a gig? Do you have good synergy when playing together?

We’ve been together for 11 years, and we’ve done b2b’s a few times, but it’s not really usual so we try to make it special when we do it. We know each other inside and out, and been fans of each other as artists even before we became a couple, so it feels very natural for us to play together, despite the eventual argument inherent to any couple’s dynamics J

Your music is supported by many respected artists including Laurent Garnier, Christian Smith, Stacey Pullen, Monika Kruse and Stephan Bodzin. What do you think has been the key to your success so far?

I’ve always tried to make music that I love and that I’d like to play and listen to myself, only then other people would do the same I believe. I’ve been true to my influences and my roots as an artist and have an open mind to new trends, new techniques, so I’m always acquiring knowledge and trying to improve and reinvent myself artistically.

We heard you have a release out on the next Drumcode A-Sides – can you let us know a little more about this? The track and when we can expect it to be released?

I can’t say much about it, but Adam has been playing the track in almost all of his sets for the past few months and if you follow Drumcode radio you’d most definitely have heard it, it’s a big track and one of my favorites as of late, I can’t wait for it to be released, it’s coming soon in the second half of the year.
