Weekend Heroes – Dufus [Beat Boutique]

DJ Zombi's Beat Boutique returns this week with a smashing new single from Weekend Heroes. The Israeli duo has had a tremendous year, highlighted by releases on Guy Mantzur's Plattenbank Records and Pena's Flow Records. Their crossover sound is much loved throughout the underground and now they make their much anticipated debut on Beat Boutique alongside remixes from Dmitry Molosh, Magitman, Scott James and Andrea Bertolini & Valerio Vaudano.

Weekend Heroes have always been highly regarded for their meticulous production and fresh design qualities. With one foot in the psy-trance scene and the other in contemporary progressive house what you get is a very unique and dance floor friendly hybrid. 'Dufus' is a perfect example of that with its tight beats, crunchy electronics and dark themes. The lead motif is downright deadly; carrying a big impact, particularly during the main break which builds drama and goes off big. Massive stuff from Weekend Heroes.

Beat Boutique has assembled an all-star and very well rounded remixer cast starting with Dmitry Molosh who makes his label debut. The Belarus based artist has found a home on Hernan Cattaneo's Sudbeat Music and Cid Inc's Replug Records over the last year and continues to dazzle progressive house fans as a result. Given Dmitry's electric sound the parts from the original should lend themselves to a great remix here and they certainly have. A storyboard of squelchy synths, timely drum fills and a charged low end make for a bomb that should fair very well on a peak time dance floor.

Next up Magitman returns to the label following a remix of 'Foliage 1' by Andrea Bertolini from May of this year. The Israeli artist is a veteran of the scene and it certainly shows in his highly detailed productions. His remix here goes big but with a greater emphasis on groove and sense of space. The lead motif is quite indistinct, running through the main break as rhythmic elements build tension, leading to a muscular drop. Big time remix from Magitman.

Label artist Scott James is next making his sixth appearance. The Canadian producer last appeared on the Israeli imprint in January of this year with a remix of 'Sometimes Shugga' by Dousk. Also owning releases on Iboga, One Of A Kind and Soundteller Scott now returns to Beat Boutique with a great rendition of 'Dufus'. It's techno sensibility complements the previous three versions really well with a stripped punchy framework and distinctive vocal elements leading the charge.

The release concludes with label artist Andrea Bertolini making his tenth appearance alongside sometime studio partner Valerio Vaudano. The Italian duo add further depth to the release with a deeper take that uses meditative arps and rolling grooves to burrow into your subconscious. Great remix from Andrea and Valerio which rounds out a massive release for DJ Zombi's Beat Boutique. Highly Recommended.
