The Argentinean artist first appeared in August of this year with a collaborative single alongside fellow countryman Agustin Sasson courtesy of Specific Music. 'Harbinger' introduced the world to Vhanek who now debuts on Soundteller with 'Diplopia'. The title track leads the release off and finds the Argentine delivering a pure progressive cut. Tough beats make an immediate presence early, providing the root for a rolling groove and layers of driving percussion. Timely effects and catchy arps add detail and rhythm across the first act, before trails of clap delays transition the piece into a tense break and powerful finale. The second selection ‘Ataraxia’ lowers the tempo a touch for a darker progressive techno hybrid. A sleek yet powerful groove underpins indistinct vocals loops, phasing synths and layers of effervescent percussion. Constructed with the dance floor in mind, the main break delivers the most impact with an extended drum roll and eerie arp building for a colossal drop. The release concludes with ‘Prader’ which furthers the driving, hypnotic mood of the EP. Spacey effects and crunchy synths sit a atop a full, harmonious groove which immediately adds an emotional lean to the narrative. Classic percussion loops and grinding arps add further character leading into the break where the emotional lean elevates once again. A bright, euphoric melody takes centrestage here, elevating mood into another big drum roll and key changing finale. It rounds out a quality EP from Vhanek, who makes an impressive Soundteller debut here, definitely a new artist to watch as we move into 2021. Highly recommended.
