Born in New Orleans and based in Los Angeles, the American artist has been a staple of the electronic underground for the better part of three decades. His well-kept resume is highlighted by releases via Defected, Spinnin, Toolroom, YoshiToshi and Nicole Moudaber's MOOD imprint. Trent’s infectious sounds are beloved for taking square aim at the dance floor and have earned the praise of Richie Hawtin, Marco Carola, Carl Cox and Adam Beyer, while enjoying extended stays atop Beatport’s Top 100 charts. Beloved for his radio show ‘Sounds Like Radio’, Trent features the freshest sounds in underground dance on a weekly basis, broadcasting globally on stations such as Sirius XM, Pioneer DJ Radio, Radio FG and more. Trent’s Monday Social debut ‘Originate’ landed in October of 2020 and anchored the label’s popular ‘Floorplay’ Volume One collection. Now bringing new life to the acid-fuelled indie dance crossover smash, Monday Social Music invites Theus Mago, Freaky Chakra and Aerial Grey to re-imagine the track for 2021. Making his label debut and providing the first interpretation is Theus Mago. As a pillar of the indie dance scene, the Mexican producer firmly sits in the genre’s elite class of artists. Creative and prolific in equal measure, the Mexico City resident lays claim to an impressive discography, highlighted by releases via Correspondant, Pets Recordings, TAU, Turbo Records and his own Duro imprint. Now fresh off an artist showcase for Optimo Music, Theus makes his Monday Social debut with a wonderfully warped take on ‘Originate’. Beginning with tough beats and striking electronics, it’s the muscular nature of the groove which becomes instantly compelling. Billowing and full of great character, it anchors what is a cosmic slice of indie dance. Reprocessed vocals and kaleidoscopic tones marry industrial-like effects and a forest of arcane percussion across the first act, before the second of two breaks resets the groove for a colourful finale. Returning to the label and providing the second interpretation of ‘Originate’ is Freaky Chakra. Approaching three decades in electronic music, the American artist first emerged in the early nineties out of San Francisco's burgeoning underground. Releases courtesy of Astralwerks and Exist Dance found favour with a broad spectrum of electronic music tastemakers. Legendary UK DJ Sasha was one of the first to champion Freaky Chakra in his sets, and eventually featured the US artist on his Global Underground mix compilations ‘San Francisco’ and ‘Fundacion’. Freaky Chakra also had a hand in the launch of Monday Social, teaming up with label boss Freddy Be for the label’s inaugural release ‘Give Me Your Love’. Now making a welcome return to the label, Freaky Chakra delivers a stunning rendition of ‘Originate’. From a deeper, chunkier vision, the American artist draws on the sensibilities of the original, utilizing the acid elements and vocals to supreme effect, while the lead line provides a colourful canopy of sound. Percussive flurries build tension across the first act, eventually giving way to a brooding, heads-down finale. The release concludes with Aerial Grey making his label debut and providing the third and final interpretation of ‘Originate’. Based in Las Vegas, the American artist first emerged in 2019 with a string of releases via Italian imprint Natura Viva, before going on to find a more permanent home on long standing UK imprint Stripped Recordings. Now adding Monday Social Music to his resume, Aerial rounds out the release with an inspired interpretation of ‘Originate’. Adding further depth to the project, Aerial opts for an excursion into broken beats and prophetic motifs. Fragmented vocals marry beautifully with glitchy effects and chromatic arps for a shadowy journey that delights the senses every step of the way. An excellent interpretation from Aerial which complements the previous versions perfectly and caps off a well rounded remix edition for Trent Cantrelle's 'Originate'. Highly recommended.
