Trapped In Time ft. LAUD – Diogenis EP [Movement Recordings]

6 min read

Presenting their final release of 2019 Tash's Movement Recordings welcomes Trapped In Time back to the label for a new EP entitled 'Diogenis'. Hailing from Thessaloniki, the Greek artist first appeared on the Greek imprint in January of this year with the well received 'Resurrection'. Also finding a home on Steyoyoke, Three Hands Records and his own Us & Them imprint, Trapped In Time now returns to Movement with a new EP alongside a remix from Circle of Life.

Diversifying his portfolio further Trapped In Time’s masterstroke here is to collaborate and introduce the sublime vocals of LAUD. Once again operating at a creative peak, the Greek artist creates an astral storyboard of punchy beats, fiery percussion and fierce effects. A tension filled intro gives way to LAUD's soulful chops as rippling grooves, rolling rhythms and quirky designs steal the air at timely moments. The cosmic creativities come to full fruition during the main break, building to an effervescent sizzle before unleashing the pulsating groove for a dramatic conclusion. Also included is a Dub version for the less vocally inclined DJs and listeners out there. The tranquil tech vibes of the companion piece 'Trofonio Andro' are perhaps an ideal complement to its predecessor. Hypnotic and fluid, the pulsating framework gets adorned with meandering atmospheres, percussive flurries and smooth rhythmic artefacts. It’s seductive presence quickly becomes intoxicating, as astral designs spark a poignant response, before a timely break and intriguing vocal narrative transfers energy into an evocative final act.

Rounding out the release and providing the lone interpretation of 'Diogenis' is Circle Of Life. Based in Belgrade, the Serbian artist recently made his Movement Recordings debut with the much loved 'Black Light' EP. Also calling Beat Boutique, Beatfreak Recordings, Suara and Sudbeat home, Circle Of Life now lands back on Movement with a powerful rendition of 'Diogenis'. Drawing on the sensibilities of the original the Belgrade resident leans in a more progressive minded direction, with a reworked groove and spacious rhythmic core. Clustered stabs and tonal tension make for a dramatic first act, perfectly setting up the vocal led break and foreboding finale. It caps off not only a great release but a great year for Movement Recordings, a label who have continued to evolve into new sonic territory and have flourished in doing so.
