Teelco – Shimizu EP [Soundteller Records]

As the month of June comes to a close Deersky's Soundteller Records welcomes Teelco back to the label for a new EP. Hailing from Tirana, the Albanian artist is now making his third appearance on the Polish imprint following a contribution to the labels 'Summer Sampler 2016' collection and his 'Rosa dell'Alba' EP in 2018. The last quarter of 2019 yielded a well received EP for Balkan Connection, ultimately leading to his 2020 Soundteller return entitled 'Shimizu'.

The title track kicks off the proceedings with a light and airy quality. Rolling grooves, luminous lines and bubbly arps quickly surround the percussive framework, before smooth chord changes bring more emotive qualities. Breathy vocal elements phase in and out of coherence while aquatic samples and a piano led break ultimately pave the road home.

‘Strong Spirit’ rounds the release out in fine style with further hypnotic leanings. Built around a chugging foundation, it’s meandering melodies and gaseous effects eventually grab a hold of you. The main break furthers intrigue through ghostly overlays and muted cascades, combining for profound moments and providing a smooth transition into a driving final act. It caps off two inspired cuts from Teelco, who returns to Soundteller with some of his finest work to date. Highly recommended.
