Sean & Dee – Radiant [ICONYC]

Rounding out the month of July, John Johnson's ICONYC welcomes Sean & Dee back to the label for a new EP. The Italian duo have impressed since forming their partnership in 2017. Key releases via Beatfreak Recordings, Clubsonica and UV have established them as one of progressive music’s most talented duos. ICONYC too has served as a comfortable landing spot for Sean & Dee, with the duo recording five originals and two remixes since making their label debut in 2019. Now on the strength of projects for DEEP WOODS and UV's Noir division, Sean & Dee make a welcome return to ICONYC with 'Radiant'.

Beginning with the title selection you get a feel for just how strong the creative synergy between these two talents is. Featuring a dark progressive minded narrative, the duo craft a foundation of warm pulsating beats, crunchy rhythms and vivid arps. Its robust low end is full of character and shape, positively charged and perfectly playing off the duo’s shape-shifting electronics. Coming to full fruition during the main break, a haze of cinematic overlays and emerging pads unite for a rousing crescendo, perfectly setting up a finale of rippling grooves and metallic melodies.

The companion piece ‘Antares’ follows suit with its ominous yet exhilarating energy. Darker undertones power the undulating groove, while devilish effects and striking stabs should make for some epic dance floor moments. Airy arps provide a nice contrast across the first act, playing off an astral theme leading into the main break. Tense and exciting in equal measure, the centrepiece melts down to a bed of colourful cascades, before menacing stabs spearhead a finale that is both electric and emotive. Sensational stuff from Sean & Dee once again, a duo who make an impressive return to ICONYC with 'Radiant'. Don't miss it.
