Scott James – Cyberpunk EP [Beat Boutique]

Scott James returns to DJ Zombi's Beat Boutique with a new EP entitled 'Cyberpunk'. The Canadian artist has found a comfortable home on the Israeli imprint with this being his seventh appearance. Also laying claim to releases on Beatfreak Recordings, One Of A Kind and Soundteller Records, the Montreal resident now lands back on Beat Boutique for his first project of 2020.

Scott’s uncanny knack for crafting groovy progressive house has been noted by many and it’s an ethos he continues to explore and expand upon across the ‘Cyberpunk’ EP. Beginning with the title cut we’re treated to a storyboard of dramatic designs and and buzzing atmospheres. Spacious yet tense, the narrative evolves with icy overlays and a catching tonal theme leading into the break. Melting down to a cavernous stretch of crisp artefacts, it's a wave of effects which eventually summons the groove for a driving finale.

The second selection 'Leaving' follows suit with an indistinct vocal narrative, playful tones and a warm, rolling groove. Classic chord changes add a nostalgic vibe before the vocal opens up as the breakdown progresses, eventually reaching a sizzling crescendo and classy drop where the vocal comes to full fruition.

The release concludes with the meditative qualities of 'SanFran'. Conveying moments of deep rhythmic appeal, it’s the groove which shines here, bringing with it waves of fresh designs and dramatic undercurrents. It’s a narrative which continues to evolve during an arcane break, perfectly transferring energy into an intense and appropriately astral finale. Another inspired creation from Scott, who by all accounts looks to capture the imagination of even the most discerning progressive music fans with this dance floor inspired collection.
