Santiago Nino – Soul Catching Machine [Stellar Fountain]

The latest release on Stellar Fountain finds the label presenting a brand new single from Santiago Nino. The Buenos Aires based artist has a long history in progressive house dating back to 2005 when releases on Aurium Recordings and Precinct Recordings caught people's attention. Fast forward 12 years and Santiago is still pushing out quality music, much of which has been electronica based, with releases on Mindspring Music and CUBEREC. Now making his much anticipated Stellar Fountain debut Santiago presents his first progressive minded track in years entitled 'Soul Catching Machine'. 

There was always something special about Santiago's productions dating back all those years and he's managed to capture it here again. Beginning with a tough, percussive groove there's an immediate dance floor sensibility about it. For as chunky and rhythmic as it is the magic lies in how subtle the emotion builds, coming in a wave of overlays before drifting off and then eventually reaching full fruition during a broken beat section two thirds of the way through. Warm, inviting and oh so gorgeous, very timeless in design and masterfully storyboarded. 

It only seems fitting that Chris Cargo is one of the remixers on this project. Both given his recent resurgence and long standing history in the genre, there's a certain 'this just feels right' sort of vibe about it. The Irish artist goes deeper, techier and with lovely dramatic moments. As you'd expect the production is rock solid; ultra crisp and bursting with ultrasonic quality. The dark undertone running through the foundation is quite compelling, building tension with each successive loop before the main break introduces an acid-like motif, sitting perfectly against the groove resulting in capsizing swing. The release concludes with a second remix from Forerunners who is making his label debut. The US artist has found a home on Max Graham's Cycles imprint this year where he has released a single and remix. Now following a single on Saturate Audio Forerunners makes his much anticipated Stellar Fountain debut taking 'Soul Catching Machine' into more melodic territory. Filled with crunchy, well processed electronics and layers of beaming percussion it doesn't take long to get sucked into its hypnotic cadence. The melodic elements are ultimately what shine the most though, very subtle and incredibly emotive, building slowly before evolving into something quite heavenly during an incredible third act finale. A well crafted remix and a top notch offering from Stellar Fountain once again.
