Room47 – Space Runners [Naturall Products]

Celebrating their one hundredth release, Naturall Productions welcomes Room47 back to the label for a new EP. Formed in 2018 and comprised of Belgian artists Thomas Moon and Roscoe Deem, Room47 prides themselves on being a borderless electronic music act. The duo has never fit into any specific genre template, rather incorporating elements of progressive house, melodic techno, trance and techno into one amorphous sound of their own. A four-year creative swell has seen Room47 notch twenty-eight discography credits, with the majority of their elusive productions finding a home on their Naturall Productions imprint. Now commemorating their landmark one hundredth release, the label is once again a vehicle for Room47’s latest double a-side project ‘Space Runners’.

Beginning with the title selection, Room47 flexes their free-thinking muscles and takes square aim at a peak time dance floor. A DJ friendly intro sets the stage for layers of driving percussion and rolling rhythmic themes. This sturdy framework proves to be the perfect backbone for flickering arps and devilish chord stabs to work their magic. Timely drops and rhythmic shifts make for a lively first act, eventually melting down into a tension filled break where percolating arps and rising modulation unite in a colourful crescendo and thumping finale.

The companion piece ‘Saturday One’ lowers the tempo a touch while keeping a similar sonic profile to its predecessor. Anchored by ten-tone kick drums and a heavy, character rich groove, Room47 pulls from their trance inspired repertoire here, juxtaposing key changing arps and bulbous swells to great effect. Sitting at the heart of the journey, a timely break furthers the trance inspired sensibilities of the piece, as Room47’s keen dance floor vision comes to fruition with a vortex of modulation sparking a thunderous drop and exhilarating final movement. A heady production from Room47, one which not only showcases the rising duo at their creative best but rounds out a must-have 100th release from Naturall Productions in fine style. Don’t miss it.
