Return To Saturn – Colours [Soundteller Records]

Deersky's Soundteller Records begins the new year by welcoming Return To Saturn to the label for his first project. Hailing from Argentina but now calling Germany home, Return To Saturn emerged last year with releases via Flug Lab and One Of A Kind. The Leipzig resident would then go on an eight month creative swell which would see him release projects for Amulanga, Bekool, Dreamers, RYNTH and The Purr. Now, coming off a remix for Stellar Fountain to begin the year, Return To Saturn makes his Soundteller debut with 'Colours'.

First track ‘Sunset in Desert’ continues the organic sound for which Return to Saturn has become known for. An array of cross-cultural motifs and reflective vocals make up the primary narrative, and what an engaging journey it is. Emotion reaches a peak across the main break as the vocal takes centrestage, blanketing fading drums, before the beats drop for a suitably groovy finale.

Meanwhile, selection two ‘Empathy’ comes with a bit more of a progressive vibe. Tempo rises and the groove is fuller and more energetic, while a tasteful atmospheric backdrop keeps that mysterious quality set by the previous selection. Void of any primary theme, it's a nature-centric break which ultimately transfers energy into a smooth yet thumping final act.

The release concludes with the title selection 'Colours' which lands with a similar vibe to 'Empathy'. Smooth and progressive, its emotive chord changes and poignant vocal fragments deliver a supremely nostalgic vibe like much of the genre's golden years. Simplicity is the key here, the vocal processing and balmy atmospherics work amazingly well together, and make what is a quite simple track become hugely emotional in the end. It rounds out three gorgeous tracks from Return To Saturn who makes an excellent Soundteller debut here. Highly recommended.
