Hailing from Argentina, Ramz Demar first came to our attention in 2019 with a contribution to Ballroom's 'Secret Gems' collection. Noted for finding a tasteful balance between progressive and melodic house, the Mar del Plata resident would go on to secure projects via Mercurial Tones and T&dream across the next two calendar years. A release courtesy of long-standing Greek imprint Deepsessions earlier this month ended what was a two-year hiatus, perfectly setting the stage for his Polyptych Noir debut 'Universe Movement'. Aimed squarely at a peak hour dance floor, ‘Universe Movement’ marries trance-inducing rhythms and striking percussion with punchy beats and chunky, swing-heavy grooves. An array of astral effects steals the air across the first act, sweeping in and out of the stereo-field, as wavy arps add depth, colour and intrigue leading into the main break. Concise and well-crafted, the interlude provides a healthy dose of both tension and emotion, as heartfelt synth phrasing tactfully transfers energy into a groove-centric drop and effects-laden finale. The companion piece ‘Multicolor Reflections’ continues the Argentine’s dancefloor minded approach. Landing with an equally impressive display of sounds, Ramz plants multiple explosions of serotonin through muscular basslines, acid-like stabs and rolling percussive arrangements. Once again the main break keeps things brief, rather than lose the dance floor's attention, it's phasing atmospheres and acidic designs which take centrestage here, creating anticipatory vibes before perfectly peaking for a final act that is both dynamic and tense. It caps off an excellent Polyptych Noir debut for Ramz Demar, an artist who looks to emerge from Argentina's progressive house underground as 2023 moves forward. Highly recommended.
