Releases Paula OS – Rival [Or Two Strangers] By Release Promo Posted on 19th May 2023 8 min read 0 0 Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Share on Reddit Share on Linkedin Rounding out a strong spring season, Antrim’s Or Two Strangers welcomes Paula OS back to the label for a new single. Born in Chile but now Buenos Aires based, Paula shot into the electronic music spotlight in 2016 with her vocal work on Jos & Eli’s ‘Walking On Water’. Released through long standing German imprint Einmusika, it set the course for what has been a remarkable seven-year stretch. Paula has since gone on to collaborate with some of progressive music’s most esteemed talents in Antrim, Ezequiel Arias, Hernan Cattaneo & Soundexile, Kamilo Sanclemente and more. It’s these unique pairings which has led to an impeccable resume highlighted by releases via Anjunadeep, Selador, Sound Avenue, Sudbeat and UV. Having already appeared on Or Two Strangers three previous times dating back to 2017, Paula now returns to the label for his first solo single entitled ‘Rival’, alongside remixes from John Cosani and Greg Ochman. Much lauded for her emotive sounds, Paula continues to explore that narrative on ‘Rival’. Wrapped within a fluid rhythmic shell are well contoured beats, warm basslines and a myriad of panning effects. The Argentine’s storyboarding takes hold across the first act, as enchanting vocal elements and balmy harmonics maneuvere their way through intricate percussive arrangements and key changing slabs of bass. The second break showcases Paula’s keen dance floor sensibility, although brief it’s broken beats and effected vocals add just the right amount of anticipation, perfectly foreshadowing a goosebump worthy finale. Returning to the label with the first interpretation of ‘Rival’ is John Cosani. With a career that spans well over a decade Argentinean producer John Cosani has established himself as one of the progressive genre’s veteran artists. On the strength of early tracks John earned the praise of genre tastemakers Hernan Cattaneo and Nick Warren, in turn landing standout projects via Mango Alley, Sudbeat Music, Tale & Tone and more. Antrim’s Or Two Strangers has also served as an important landing spot for John, with an EP and remix landing across 2019 and 2020 respectively. Now, following a remix for Ric Niels and Dowden to begin the year, John returns to Or Two Strangers with a stirring take on ‘Rival’. While maintaining the uplifting spirit of the original, the Buenos Aires resident crafts a sweeping sonic experience all his own, a sleek hypnotic journey where flowing basslines and deconstructed vocals surface from their rhythmic architecture, onwards to a finale of emotive grooves and fluttery arps. Making his label debut and providing the second and final interpretation of ‘Rival’ is Greg Ochman. Hailing from Poland, Greg first emerged in 2021 with a release via Sebastian Leger’s Lost Miracle. Comprised of three tracks, this organic offering would lead to future releases for Clubsonica, Pattenbank, Songuara and Warung Recordings. Now exceeding a two-year creative swell, Greg is widely regarded as one of the more prolific and inventive remixers in organic house. Fresh off his latest Plattenbank vehicle ‘Beyond A Whisper’, Greg now makes his Or Two Strangers debut with a gorgeous take on ‘Rival’. Sitting comfortably in an emotive yet thought provoking space, the full vocal arrives early as it rises out of piano infused interlude in grandiose fashion. Built beautifully across a whimsical first act, it’s a heartfelt main break which proves most impactful, as a tasteful amalgamation of vocals and effects provides moments of hope and reflection, onwards to an unabashedly epic finale. A stunning interpretation from Greg which rounds out a welcome return to Or Two Strangers for Paula OS. Don’t miss it.
