Paul Lennar & Favio Cavoni – Aira [Mycelium]

Mycelium closes out a strong summer season by welcoming Paul Lennar and Favio Cavoni to the label for their debut single. Hailing from Colombia, Paul Lennar has been a recognized figure in his country's electronic music culture for well over a decade. With a discography that features releases via Movement Recordings, Perfecto, UV and more, the Bogota resident often finds a great balance between progressive, melodic and organic house; a sound that has seen him earn the praise of world class DJs such as Hernan Cattaneo. Meanwhile, also hailing from Colombia is Favio Cavoni who began his career as a DJ, incorporating elements of Techno and Progressive House in sets for a sound that could be described as nostalgic, romantic and euphoric. As a producer, Favio is at the beginning of his journey with three releases via Avenir Musique and Business Class Records across 2021 and 2022. Now, joining forces for the first time, Paul and Favio debut on Mycelium with 'Aira', alongside remixes from Tomas Sanchez and ID Project.

The release commences with the original mix, which finds Paul and Favio layering metallic fragments and gritting percussion over pulsating grooves and punchy kick drums. A smooth energy carries into the break where the duo bring a great emotional response, as cinematic pads, orbiting effects and astral sonics unite in an exhilarating crescendo, which ultimately cues a cosmic finale.

Returning to the label with the first remix of 'Aira' is Mycelium boss Tomas Sanchez. Hailing from Colombia, Tomas Sanchez is a DJ and electronic music producer who has established himself as a benchmark on the Medellín scene. Arawak Records, ContraPaso, Hexagonal Music and more have been home to his cutting edge style, a sound in which he always seems to find a great club sensibility with. His music has achieved great acceptance on the dance floor due to his ability to fuse different genres and create a unique sound. Tomas has shared the booth with great artists such as Matador, Pan Pot, NTO, Hosh, Nastia, among many others, demonstrating his ability to connect with the public through an exquisite musical selection. Having delivered the inaugural release on the label alongside fellow Mycelium boss PIMI, Tonas now returns in solo capacity with a spirited take on 'Aira'. Staying true to the vibe of the original but with an old school edge, the Colombian's electric grooves, spiralling arps and phasing sonics captivate across the first act. Unique and uplifting, the main break is sure to capture the dancefloor's full attention, as striking chord stabs steal the air and rising modulation eventually gives way for a finale of astral designs and thumping grooves.

The release concludes with ID Project making his label debut with the second and final interpretation of 'Aira'. With a career that spans just over three years, Colombian artist ID Project has found a place in the trend driven state of electronic music. Armed with a melodic sound that incorporates both digital and analog elements, ID Project has compiled a short but noteworthy discography, highlighted by releases via Duenia, ILINX and Polyptych Noir. Continuing on an upwards trajectory, the Medellin resident now adds Mycelium to his discography with a stunning interpretation of 'Aira'. Beginning with a tight kick and galloping grooves, the Colombian artist channels the electric energy of the original through billowing stabs and tension filled tones, before a break of dissonant synth blasts and crunchy melodica setup a thrilling peak time finale.
