Ozgur Ozkan – Room 606 [Northern Lights Music]

Northern Lights Music returns this week by welcoming Ozgur Ozkan back to the label for a new EP. The Turkish artist first appeared on the Egyptian imprint in August of 2015 with his 'Alone With You' Single. A subsequent appearance in August of 2017 yielded the successful 'Daydream In Black' EP. A collaborative EP with Nissim Gavriel then landed on DJ Zombi's Beat Boutique to round out 2017. Now following a quiet start to 2018 Ozgur unveils his 'Room 606' EP alongside remixes from Paul Angelo & Don Argento and Pacco & Rudy B.

Ozgur always seems to come up with these uniquely melodic creations that resonate on a deep emotional level. The title track once again does just that with it’s murky and mildly cross cultural leanings. The hazy tonal theme is mystical sounding to say the least while a bevy of fresh electronics provide some lovely sounding hooks. It all comes together during the main break which is a journey unto itself, eventually melting down as trippy keys and a wave of noise summon an inspired finale. The companion piece ‘Like A Sunrise’ comes in deeper and more laid back but no less trippy or engaging. It’s shuffling groove sounds tailor made for a dark dance floor and the vocal motifs become incredibly haunting as the storyboard progresses.

The remixes on the release come from two of the hottest duos in progressive house at the moment with the first being Paul Angelo & Don Argento. The Cyprus based duo have achieved remarkable success over the last calendar year. A recent EP on Soundteller Records along with a remix on Movement Recordings have been 2018 highlights and now they deliver another on the money remix here. The duos penchant for crafting dark, driving grooves is perfect for track and that’s exactly what they do. Up the tempo just a touch and rework the groove into something a bit more energetic and peak time inspired. The distinctive motifs from the original are used beautifully and some additional mysticism during the main break proves to be the icing on the cake. Massive remix from Paul and Don.

The release concludes with the equally on fire Pacco & Rudy B. The Croatian duo have been hot this year with the launch of their Mallam imprint along with quality work for A Must Have, Dopamine Music and Specific. Here they bring a unique vision to ‘Room 606’, lightening the mood for more of a pure progressive journey. The smooth inviting quality of the production is truly astounding and one you’ll want to enjoy several times over. Everything from it’s rippling groove to airy melodies and spacey effects paints a gorgeous sonic collage, and the contrast in emotion from this to the original just makes it an ideal complement. Great remix from Pacco & Rudy B which rounds out an excellent release from Northern Lights Music. Highly Recommended.
