Nopi – Libido [Deepwibe Underground]

Deepwibe Underground continues a successful year by welcoming Nopi to the label for his debut EP. Having first appeared in March of 2019, Nopi has enjoyed a meteoric rise through the organic house underground. In just two short years the Ukrainian artist has found a home on Akbal Music, Anjunadeep, Do Not Sit, Replug, Proton Music and Sound Avenue. Now embarking on his first project for Deepwibe Underground, Nopi presents his much anticipated 'Libido' single alongside remixes from DJ Paul and Monograph & The Cobb.

Often sitting in the creative space between organic and progressive house, Nopi leans more towards the latter on 'Libido' with a groovy production that's sure to light up your dance floor. Warm beats, submerged bass, and rolling percussion set the piece in motion, as harmonic phrasing and choir-like overlays surround the framework. A strong effects storyboard provides depth and character as the first act evolves, eventually shifting energy and mood into an emotive break. Atmospheric and haunting, wispy sweeps and swirling noise drift across the centrepiece, gently blanketed with misty melodies as the robust groove drops for a spirited finale.

Making a return to the label following his '1987' EP is DJ Paul who provides the first remix. The Argentinean producer has been a fixture of his country’s electronic underground for almost three decades. In addition to heading up Metro.FM, Paul has also shared the booth with Hernan Cattaneo, Nick Warren, Sasha, Dave Seaman and Deep Dish while showcasing his music on Balkan Connection, TrybesOf, Selador and Sudbeat. Choosing his projects wisely across 2021's first half, DJ Paul now returns to Deepwibe Underground for his first remix of the year. With a perfect blend of creativity and emotion, the Argentinean artist deconstructs the main elements into a gorgeous effervescent theme. Leaving something to the imagination, it's intriguing textures are hazy yet emotive, perfectly playing off a rolling foundation and waves of fuzzed out percussion. The main break continues the shapeshifting narrative, bringing a touch more emotion as the melody rises and the beats drop for a sleek conclusion.

Rounding out the release and providing the second and final interpretation is Monograph and The Cobb. Based in Estonia and Russia respectively this is a duo at the beginning of their collaborative partnership, having worked together once previously on the lead track from The Cobb's 'Apogee' EP from September of last year. Now linking up for their first ever remix, the duo add further variety to the release with an Indie inspired take on the track. The tempo shifts down and the groove opens up for character rich bass stabs and haunting atmospherics to carry the first act. Blessed with one of the more dynamic grooves you'll hear this year, it's the timeless sensibility of the top line elements which eventually commands your attention. Coming to full fruition across the break, the pixie-like lines dazzle before getting washed away in bass heavy drop and thunderous final act. Great to see Monograph and The Cobb stretching their creative boundaries here, ultimately closing the release out on a high note and making for a superb Deepwibe Underground debut for Nopi.
