It’s been an amazing year for the Argentinean artist who has become a frequent studio partner to legendary Dj Nick Warren. Together the duo have delivered some of 2018’s most beloved tracks. Everything from their ‘Land Of Dreams’ three piece showcase to remixes for Days Like Nights and Manjumasi has been exceptional. Speaking about Nicolas’ solo efforts is much same with the creative artist giving us one of the years best bootleg remixes with his take on Bjork’s ‘Mutual Core’ along with releases on MNL, Proton’s Particles and Reworck. Perhaps long overdue, Nicolas now makes his debut on Asymmetric Recordings with a stunning two track EP. With a long standing musical history and a fascination for percussion Nicolas always seems to be evolving and forever chasing the perfect groove. On ‘Metanoia’ we get some of his smoothest and classiest work to date. The warmth and momentum of the low end is quite spectacular, perfectly contoured and full of great character, it anchors what is a driving, percussive, yet highly emotive slice of progressive house. Tranquil arps combined with a lovely chain of effects and glowing harmonics build subtly over the first act, before coming to full realization during the main break; which goes just big enough to light up your dance floor and still make for a very pleasant listen. The companion piece ‘Alpha’ is equally brilliant with another full bodied groove and a superb percussive complement. Ghostly vocal refrains converge with hazy atmospherics for a gorgeous wall of melody and colour, eventually revealing a more distinctive lead theme which seals it’s brilliance. It rounds out two excellent progressive minded cuts from Nicolas, both of which i suspect are already in the sets of Hernan Cattaneo and Nick Warren. Highly Recommended.
