MRTNZ – Synesthesia [Stellar Fountain]

MRTNZ makes his Stellar Fountain debut this week with ‘Synesthesia’. The Spanish artist artist appeared on the Astrowave division of the label in September with ‘Of the Process’ by Gabriel Carminatti. Also owning releases on Movement Recordings and Electronic Tree, MRTNZ steps up to Stellar Fountain with a brand new three track EP.

Although finding a place in the progressive underground MRTNZ has much more of a NEO sound and it’s certainly serves him well on the title track. The pristine production immediately stands out as does the warm, shifty low end. It proves to be the perfect foundation for a barrage of percussive flurries and melodic motifs to tantalize your senses. Precise yet subtle in execution, emotionally it’s quite powerful and it’s this sort of delivery which is always the most rewarding after multiple listens.

‘Hypnotic’ follows with a tougher kick and subterranean low end. The presence the groove generates is enormous and with finely detailed percussion along with waves of arps it’s an astral delight from start to finish. The break is quite nicely, serving only as a transitional shift, scaling the energy back and raising tension through quality atmospherics and percussive waves.

The release concludes with ‘Equilibrium’ which is the quirkiest of the three cuts. Once again anchored by a distinctive kick it’s pulsating power is undeniable. A touch more minimalistic it’s the frayed percussion and delicate synth work which powers the journey. Intriguing and trippy in equal measure, the main break is much more expansive here, building drama over a minute plus strength before clever modulation and smoothly transitions the piece to a purring finale. It rounds out what is stunning Stellar Fountain debut for MRTNZ who you’re definitely going to be hearing a lot more about in the near future. Highly recommended.
