The latest release from Deepwibe Underground finds Monograph collaborating with Marcus Caballero on a three track EP. Now a staple on the label's artist roster, Monograph has become beloved in the progressive underground for the hypnotic qualities in their music. Having already appeared on parent label Deepwibe Records, Marcus Caballero now lands on the Underground division following a contribution to Manual Music's 'Explorations, Vol. 2' collection. Together the trio unite for the first time and present their much anticipated 'Huracan' EP.

Continuing to grow their fan base with striking progressive sounds, it is 'Pesadilla' which leads the release off. Anchored by a tough, punchy kick, its rhythmic core rises quickly, with layers of electric lines, clattering percussion and lively rhythms filling in the framework. Rugged stabs and sweeping effects expand the scope across the first act, while timely acid fills steal the air at opportune moments. Melting down into the break, chugging rhythms keep the groove locked as a tension filled lead fades to prominence, before a supersonic build cues a powerful drop and driving finale.

The second and also title selection finds the trio exploring heady percussive grooves. Its chunky foundation is rugged and well shaped, characterized by swing heavy contours and rolling undulation. Buoyant and commanding, it provides the perfect framework for waves of percussion, quirky arps and esoteric effects to drift into your consciousness. The narrative shifts further into trippy territory, as the breakdown commences with spastic sonics drifting across the cavernous interlude, teasing the senses just enough to foreshadow a groovy final movement.

Falling in the same sonic space and rounding out the release is ‘Fenomeno’. Muscular beats, chugging basslines and fiery percussion unite for a groovy rhythmic core. Devilish stabs and phasing refrains bring a wealth of dramatic moments as the first act builds momentum, eventually carrying into a drama filled break. Unpredictability and sinister modulation make for a memorable centrepiece, dark and intoxicating in all the right ways, eventually reaching a striking peak as a classic drum roll sparks a thrilling third act. Serious sounds from Monograph & Marcus Caballero, capping off what are a trio of hugely successful collaborations that should win favour with a broad spectrum of progressive music fans. Highly recommended.
