Michael & Levan and Stiven Rivic – Minotaur [ICONYC]

Michael & Levan and Stiven Rivic make a welcome return to John Johnson's ICONYC with 'Minotaur'. The much loved trio have become a core part of the label's roster. Having last appeared with their well received 'Inborn Voices' single, the trio also lay claim to releases on Click Records, Perfecto, Perspectives Digital, Proton Music and their own Kunai Records and Mistique Music imprints. Now following a remix for Sandra Collins and Stripped Recordings, Michael, Levan and Stiven return to ICONYC with a new two track EP.

Beginning with 'Timeline' you get a sense this is one of the trio's most timeless creations to date. Sitting comfortably in cross genre territory it’s deep, pulsating framework is perfectly contoured, adorned with vocal fragments, organic stabs and energetic tones. Airy harmonics and a cross cultural wail highlight the main break, before a deep tonal theme pulls you into a meditative state for a compelling finale.

The EP shifts gears with the title selection 'Minotaur'. Mysterious and mystical from the outset, the piece flows through trippy motifs and gaseous atmospheres, before warm overlays entice the narrative with emotive moments. The main break shines brightly with stellar sound design and a hopeful almost reflective quality, like something from the future perhaps, and the drop is nicely tailored for a clued up dance floor as well. Likely one of the trio's most unique tracks to date, sitting as a perfect complement to ‘Timeline' and rounding out a great two track offering from one of progressive music's most beloved trios. Highly recommended.
