MayDan – Paulo Coelho [Asymmetric Recordings]

Lonya’s Asymmetric Recordings lands with another massive release from Maydan this week. The Israeli artist and label A&R has found a comfortable home on Asymmetric in addition to showcasing his music on Beat Boutique and Sudbeat. Fresh off a remix for Roger Martinez in July Maydan now returns with his latest single 'Paulo Coelho' alongside remixes from Luke Garcia & UOIO and Ubbah.

For those unfamiliar with Paulo Coelho he is a Brazilian lyricist and novelist for whom this track was written in tribute to. It's full on, peak time proggy vibes are undeniable from the outset as a charged groove and sweeping effects lift you into the cosmos. Things really begin to sizzle during the main break as layers of percussion converge and drum clusters multiple for the ultimate apex as the beats drop for a massive moment.

The first remix comes from Ubbah who takes the track into ethereal techno territory with wonky synth elements and a dark chugging underbelly. It's quite spacious at points but carries a big presence nonetheless, a sure sign you're doing something right in the studio. The percussive elements add a lot, as offset mildly afro inspired hits bring dynamic moments, while a flurry during the break sparks a new lead arrangement resulting a deadly third act.

The release concludes with Luke Garcia & UOIO returning to the label following their 'Polestar' EP from June of this year. The Spanish duo complement the previous two versions wonderfully with an interpretation that delivers a stark techno sensibility and moody vibes throughout. The tempo shifts up and so too does the intensity with distinctive chord changes and a fiery build out of the break. Hard to go wrong with any version here and they are all nicely suited to different points in an evening's entertainment. A well rounded release once again from Lonya's Asymmetric Recordings. Highly Recommended.
