Mauro Augugliaro & Julian Nates – Intense Pleasure [Or Two Strangers]

Antrim’s Or Two Strangers imprint returns welcoming Mauro Augugliaro & Julian Nates to the label for their debut EP. Both hailing from the talent rich region of Cordoba, the Argentinean artists own a collective discography highlighted by releases on Hernan Cattaneo’s Sudbeat Music, Balkan Connection and Soundteller Records. Having recently showcased their debut collaboration on 3rd Avenue’s ‘We Are The Future’ 2019 Edition, Mauro and Julian now land on Or Two Strangers for their much anticipated ‘Intense Pleasure’ artist EP.

Hotly tipped as two of the progressive scene’s freshest talent’s, Mauro and Julian have already found a place in the sets of Hernan Cattaneo and Nick Warren. Showcasing a sound which is both incredibly groovy and highly emotive, the duo now further that ethos across the three track ‘Intense Pleasure’ collection. Beginning with the title cut the character is rich and warm from the outset, as tepid yet punchy beats and a rolling groove set the piece in motion. Radiant melodies and electric lines slowly fade to prominence, bringing moments of timely euphoria and meditative bliss, before eventually melting down to a dramatic build and buzzing finale.

The second selection ‘Ergo’ follows a similar sonic ethos while leaning further into peaktime territory. Beginning with a warm, full foundation the piece moves with discernible momentum as layers of drums, dulcet rhythms and astral effects converge in a wave of sound and colour. Furthering the emotive pull of the track, haunting vocal pads descend over the framework, as gentle swells and clustered claps push momentum into the main break. Playing out over two magical minutes, the centrepiece morphs into a glowing reservoir of spacey sonics and heartfelt harmonics, building to a wall of wondrous melody as the beats drop for a magic moment.

The release concludes with ‘Candeur’ which showcases a deeper more introspective sound. Beautifully constructed, it’s laid back cadence flows while a warm groove and detailed percussion converge in organic space. Utopian and dream like, tonal creativities and fragmented melodies drift across the framework, smoothly shifting energy into a heavenly interlude. Reflective in nature, it’s a deeply emotional finale to a stunning collection of music from Mauro Augugliaro & Julian Nates, one which will certainly find its way into the sets of progressive music’s top tastemakers.
