The Aussie artist is well known amongst long time progressive music fans for his now classic releases on Baroque Records and Hope Recordings. Having enjoyed a career resurgence over the last two years Matt has showcased his music via Just Movement, Massive Harmony Records, PHW Elements and Proton’s Particles. Having made his Soundteller debut in July of last year with an amazing remix of Lily Pita’s ‘Unforgivable Time’, Matt now returns to the label with a two track showcase entitled ‘Schwifty/Sanctity’. Beginning with ‘Schwifty’, Matt presents a stylish blend of deep grooves and intoxicating atmospheres. Warm beats and a chunky low end power the groove, while smooth rhythms, striking percussion and colourful effects deliver depth and texture across the first act. Dubby sounding at points, it’s got a lovely late night feel leading into the main break with tranquil tones and percussive flurries leading the way. Muted beats carry through the hazy centrepiece, building tension along the way, before pulling back for a classy drop and smooth yet exhilarating finale. I could totally see this rocking a back room at any hour of the night. The companion piece ‘Sanctity’ leans in a similar direction with perhaps more of a progressive vibe. Again backed by a well shaped and character rich groove, it’s a series of striking overlays and well manicured percussion that highlights the first act. The production is incredible, with a great sense of space allowing all those percussive details and melodic fragments to breathe, while a shape-shifting backdrop delights every step of the way. It rounds out two excellent productions from Matt, who continues to deliver amazing music across 2021. Highly recommended.
