MAM – Cygnus [Genesis Music]

MAM makes his debut on Michael A’s Genesis Music this week with ‘Cygnus’. The Argentinean artist entered the scene in 2014 with a contribution to 3rd Avenue’s ‘We Are The Future’ collection. Subsequent releases on Baroque Records, Clinique Recordings and PHW Elements solidified MAM as a force in the progressive underground. Now making his debut on Michael A’s Genesis Music MAM presents two of his most cutting edge productions to date.

The release begins with ‘Belong’ which shows a trippier side of Argentine’s studio repertoire. Not only is there a great dramatic presence throughout the creation but it’s quite modern sounding as well. The tonal designs are super fresh while the arrangement of organic percussion flows beautifully. Two breaks do wonders to advance the narrative, adding varying degrees of tension and darker, cinematic qualities, before eventually giving way to the rippling groove for a solid final act.

The companion and also title piece ‘Cygnus’ lowers the tempo down to around 100 bpm for a laid back slice of melancholic electronica. There’s a meandering narrative which makes for a lovely first act before a more distinctive lead line dominates the break. Simple but quite effective and with just enough emotion to add diversity to the release. Quality EP from MAM and a great signing for Michael A’s Genesis Music. Highly Recommended.
