Dear Deer Records continues an incredible string of releases with a new EP from Malandra Jr. this week. The Italian artist has a well kept discography dating back to 2011 and highlighted by releases on Cocoon, Defected, Diynamic and Sudbeat. Now making his much anticipated Dear Deer debut, Malandra Jr. presents his latest EP entitled ‘Millenium & Shamans’ alongside remixes from James Gill and Alex Kaspersky.

Leading the release off is the deep, sultry grooves of ‘Millenium’. Rich in character, it’s an expansive seven minute journey that explores cross cultural motifs, smooth rhythmic structures and wonderfully organic design. Ghostly atmospherics elevate the mood as the storyboard unfolds before a short but perfectly executed break delivers anticipation and emotion, ultimately leading to a powerful drop. The companion piece ‘Shamans’ proves to be an excellent complement with it’s triplet style groove and quirky lead themes. It’s rumbling low end and clustered claps are a match made in rhythmic heaven, while a subtle yet extremely powerful backdrop elevates the mood, as the more prominent design work burrows deeps into your subconscious.

Dear Deer always seems to have their finger on the pulse of what’s fresh and exciting which holds true on the remixer selection once again. Two fabulous interpretations are provided by James Gill and Alex Kaspersky. First up and fresh off an appearance on Cid Inc’s Replug Records is US artist James Gill. The NYC resident takes ‘Millenium’ into smooth, hypnotic territory with great results. The vocals play a more prominent role here, effortlessly drifting through a maze of meditative rhythms and warm bass swells before coming to full fruition during a mood expanding main break. Already a favourite amongst many of progressive music’s elite DJ’s, you can expect to be hearing this one a lot in the coming months.

The release concludes with one of the Dear Deer label bosses in Alex Kaspersky. The Ukrainian artist also owns a well kept discography with releases on Babiczstyle, Einmusika and GU Music. Always a creative remixer, Alex puts a unique twist on ‘Millenium’ to close the release out in style. The groove opens up with a cascading chain of bass tones which are undeniably catchy while the vocal gets reprocessed into a drifting, ethereal theme before delivering a magic moment during a well crafted break. A stunning remix from Alex which rounds out another top shelf offering from Dear Deer Records. Highly recommended.
