Magnovis – Merciless Battles [Stellar Fountain]

Canadian artist Magnovis debuts on Stellar Fountain this week with 'Merciless Battles'. Hailing from Ottawa, Rob Dawson aka Magnovis has carved out a unique place in the progressive house underground. Key releases on Bonzai Records, Just Movement and Soundteller Records along with support from Solarstone and Max Graham have solidified his place amongst the scenes most intriguing talents. Having previously appeared on label affiliate Astrowave, Magnovis now debuts on Stellar Fountain with 'Merciless Battles' alongside remixes from Alejo Gonzalez & Max Blade and Nicolas Navarro.

Known for crafting a smooth, melodic brand of progressive house has served Magnovis well, and that ethos continues here with ‘Merciless Battles’. Backed by a classically styled and ultra fluid groove, the Canadian artist expertly weaves a wealth of tranquil elements into it’s warm, spacious framework. Indistinct vocals add a ghostly flair, elevating the mood nicely before a well crafted break builds further anticipation through stripped beats and engulfing atmospheres. All encompassing, a trail of astral effects and a percussive roll eventually spark the drop, perfectly setting up a hugely hypnotic finale. A great vibe on this one.

Occasional studio partners Alejo Gonzalez & Max Blade make their label debut and provide the first remix. Best known for their collaborations on Bedrock and The Soundgarden, the Argentinean duo deliver more magic here with a pure progressive take that makes great use of the original elements. Deeper and groovier, it's definitely a chunkier more dance floor minded mix, but it accomplishes this without losing that amazing atmosphere from the original. A trippy break does wonders to saturate your pleasure centers before melting down to a shadowy bridge, segueing nicely into a powerful final act.

The release concludes with Stellar Fountain label artist Nicolas Navarro returning for his third appearance. Having delivered two collaborative singles with fellow countryman Tuco previously, he now goes solo for an excellent remix of 'Merciless Battles'. Sitting as a lovely complement to the previous two versions, Nicolas provides a musically inspired interpretation with gorgeous strums, exotic percussion and a perfectly dialled framework which allows all of that musicality to breathe. A soulful piece and one which rounds the release out on a powerful note. A great debut on Stellar Fountain for Magnovis who is quickly becoming one of Canada's most promising talents.
